That might have been worth a discussion about why you don't cycle in a door zone. TBH, it didn't sound like he was obnoxious or threatening -just severely misguided and lacking a bit of driving intelligence. Not excusing what he did (which was stupid) but at least he wasn't telling you to eff off, threatening to duff you up or lecturing that bikes shouldn't be on the road. Aside from the fact he obviously thought he could make a punishment pass because he perceived you as in the wrong, he just wasn't thinking there was/is a danger to cyclists with regard to dooring (and obviously wasn't thinking far enough ahead to realize cars following cyclists would probably run them over if they end up sprawled across the road after a dooring.)

Course, that's great advice after the adrenaline rush and I'm certainly not saying I would have reacted differently after such an event

In situations like these where people say things like "Get on the cycle path" and "Get on the left", is it worth trying to explain why you are not doing so? I had an elderly couple swerve towards me the other day and when they reversed up to me, they kept going on about there being a cycle lane on the other side of the road. It didnt really cross my mind to explain things to them mainly because they were so ignorant.

Agreed, never worth arguing with an idiot otherwise they will drag you down to their level.

The thing is that there is that many idiots out there, I havent really had the opportunity to explain myself.

The next time someone shouts "Get on the path" to me, I will just reply with "Potholes, pedestrians, speeeeeeed!"

There's an awful shared use cycle path near me, and I've been yelled at by nit-wit motons to get on it, and by peds to get off it

Well is the OP going to provide the police with the footage?

I don't understand why the OP didn't move over and let the car pass? Riding down the middle of the road for what, to hold up the car behind? Footage is rather dark but I think there weren't any parked cars on the nearside when the car actually passed. Another altercation brought about by a cyclist's unreasonable road positioning. I don't think the driver's response when approached by the cyclist was unreasonable either.

I don't understand why people think that not being in a cycle lane is just cause to swerve a ton of car at a human.

No, but that was my point -the driver didn't say that, so it may have been worth it (and again, I don't want to sound holier than thou, as I think it's very much easier after the event and post-adrenaline to say that).

20 seconds in, as the car passes him, the OP is also passing a car (because of the video rear view, you don't see it coming up, but check the rear view at that time and you'll see why the OP was in the middle of the road -there was a car parked at the side). From the video, that car driver should have waited, not just because of the lack of space given, but especially since he was overtaking on a speed bump.
