How is it ?
I am considering getting one of those as my very basic "smart" phone screen is too small for my podgy fingers even with big buttons app and the memory sucks,i cant have more than the basic stuff or the phone does not receive calls or texts .

Mine is the older 3G version not the later more expensive 4G one that jefmcg has quoted. The newer one is exactly the same phone but with 4G and also a micro SD slot. The phone was when I got mine 5 months ago the best budget smartphone by quite some way. Not sure if it still is (probably will be) but it is a very capable phone that simply does not behave like a budget phone, I know because I've had a HTC Wildfire and Galaxy Ace and there is simply no comparison (way better screen, more app memory, much faster phone in general). The quality of the screen is awesome, it's fast also. Then again mine was sim free with no carrier crap on it. I upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy S2, when you look at it on paper it is probably a sideways move, but the Moto G's battery life is way better and it is also faster. I'm not really a tech kind of a person, but if you read online I'm sure you will read mainly positive comments, certainly raises the bar by a long way as to what a budget phone can do.

My wife has the iPhone 5s and did the ios8 update on Sunday and said oh look it does this...I picked up my s5 and said you mean like this...then she said yeah but it does this too I once again said like this...she was not amused lol ...I was just proving that Apple are trying to copy what samsung have already done....and the iPhone isn't waterproof.

Another one you might want to have a look at is the HTC Sensation - a similar piece of kit, which can be got on ebay for well under the ton. Superb in every department but one: battery life can be an issue, which becomes an issue if you play a lot of games/watch a lot of movies/do other high-drain stuff, but also (as I discovered to my cost earlier in the summer) if you're in a place with poor network coverage - the phone spends its time desperately trying to find/hang onto signals, which really wolfs through the power. But as I say, other than that it's a cracker.

And also, as I discovered, it can't handle the latest version of Android, which it self-installed and subsequently seized up every time it was turned on. Binned it.

I misread this and thought you were asking about the iphone, and was being cheeky.

Yes, it's great. I also have the 3G Moto G, and am very happy with it. I have the 16GB version, which is a little cramped for me as I have 400 podcasts waiting for me to have time to listen to them. Things just work on it (generally) which is a nice change as I also had a Wildfire and then a great little Sony Ericson. Everything is compatible with this, updates come through. It's fast, snappy, nice screen. It does kill strava a lot, because that's a memory hog. It's once rebooted on my during a call, but that's the price you pay for using a computer to make phone calls.

Just got an update of Motorola Assist which will read texts when I'm at home (or driving - not sure about that as I haven't driven, and apparently I don't cycle fast enough to be mistaken for a car).

Iphone 6 US Apple store $299
Iphone 6 UK Apple store £619

That's quite some difference. Are they taking the pi$$?
the quoted US price is the price of the phone when bought with a 2 year contract
The UK price is without a contract
A more accurate comparison would be to quote base prices of both or contract prices of both

Fair point. Prompted by something that appeared on my Facebook timeline I just looked at the headline prices displayed on Apple's UK and US online stores.

The thing is though, iPhones make you 3.8 times more attractive to the opposite sex than other phones (and 2.5 times to the same sex for those that are interested).

In the USA the base price is $649, the cheaper prices are on contract the same as here

Not quite right. Prices here.

$649-$849 for normal size iPhone 6 unlocked depending on memory size.

Contract free the 6plus is $749 = £460 + VAT == £550

not as bad.
