I'm sure I came across a rather neat unit comprising speakers and an iPod dock designed to fit into a bottle cage, but now I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Or can anyone recommend AN Other on-bike speaker system?

I recommend the Perma-mute™ system which is manufactured by the Selfless company. It's a set of speakers which give maximum fidelity at extremely low dB levels. So low in fact that you can hear every word spoken by your cycling companions while still enjoying the peace and tranquility of the countryside.

Each system uses its own unique carrier wave frequency so many cyclists can operate Perma-mutes simultaneously without interference; without even noticing that other systems are in use in fact. That makes the system ideal for club-runs and cycling events where the use of speakers operating above the threshold of audibility might cause great outrage and discontent.

The speakers are so small that you can't see them, and are so light that you won't even notice they are attached to your bike. They run forever on an internal battery. Even better, they are completely free!

I have the PermaMute at the moment. They work well for many rides, but not for solo rides where you want music without earphones, and also not for the big charity rides where music is very much appreciated.

ah, the assumption that your blaring music is much appreciated.......I believe you need to go to your LBS and see if they do this type of customisation....the style you need to ask for is 'Chav'

Someone posted a system recently, where the speakers go in your bar ends. I can't find the thread though.

not the one which I was thinking of, but here's a thread:

Oh no - it's bad enough broadcasting your music to an unwilling audience, but making it sound like the bass-less overspill from a pair of iPod earphones - aaaargh!

Not my music, and observation, not assumption.

There were several people on the London to Southend with music systems, and every time I noticed people slowing down or speeding up to stay along side them, smiling, giving thumbs-up, etc.

But thanks anyway for your opinion - everyone has one ...

Thanks - this is for a trike, so bar-ends wouldn't work (the mirrors are mounted there), but appreciate the thought.
