I don't have a problem with people leaving a clue to some local place, feature, point etc, but to leave plastic boxes all over the countryside is akin to littering. That may be simplistic, but one persons "treasure" is another persons litter.
I was standing right next to the caches in question but I didn't spot them.

The one under the stone was found because my mate thought the piece of stone was 'too perfectly balanced' on another one. The tuft of plastic was minute - the bag was well hidden. If you weren't looking for it, you'd never have known it was there.

I agree that these things shouldn't be in the open, and I'd also say - don't damage the local environment where you place them. I.e. don't dig up anything like wild flowers, and don't disturb birds' nests etc.

I've done a few with the kids. Some of the caches are like dog collar barrels, only big enough for a rolled up strip of paper for finders to sign and date.
