Depends on where the looseness is. I took it to be the P pivot rather than the B pivot. Both have springs in the assembly either way.

took the RD off and the whole thing is toast , the main pivots on the Rd body are loose which is where the play is coming from so its into the bin .
Took the RD of the weigh cx and fitted it , attatched the cable and now it seems the shifter is playing up ! Feels like the cable has snapped inside the shifter head again  I did recable it recently too .:banghead::wacko::cursing:

Always happens the moment you touch something, takes ten time slonver than you think it will. Hopefully easy enough to sort it out.

Ok last night i took the cable out of the shifter and although it hadnt broke it had come out of the bit inside where the cable head sits so the shifter was clicking but not pulling cable .I put a new cable in just in case and its working but i cant get it to index right , its an 8 speed claris and it jumps from 6 th to 8th and if i adjust the cable tension so it doesnt it then doesnt like going from 2nd to 1st
I might as well replace the shifters now as they are so used that the surface colour has long gone so maybe they earned a rest as i am thinking that they are wearing out inside ,i do know the replacement RD worked with the other set of shifters i have perfectly .
