Is the Carrera Intercity Disc 9 a significantly better ride than the Disc 8?

Its an effectively new bike, so worth investing in new guards. If you love it as much as my ID9 you'll never part with it, so the 20 snifters spent on the guards would be an excellent long term investment.

Chucking in some random locations a few minutes ago on the Halfords site page, I've discovered there is at least one £250 Intercity Disc 8 folder at the Llantrisant store, ~12 miles from Cardiff.

Don't forget your British Cycling 10% discount or similar!

I chucked in a few and found nil so your Welsh one is one more than I found

Just randomly window shopped the Halfords folding bikes and there's two new Carrera folders, one with 7-speed and mechanical disc for ~£325 and a 9-speed one with hydraulic brakes for ~£450!

While mulling this over, typically I cancelled my £50 British Cycling memebership renewal recently, so need to check what the BLC discount is and possibly convince my better half to buy one/two for us.

The rear frame looks like the old v-brake Intercity with the addition of discs. A road.cc review suggested a fairly weighty 14.6kg for the original Intercity as opposed to the ID9's more svelte sub 12kg

We need someone to try or buy one. The original rim braked Intercity wasnt a bad bike, did a decent job for the money, but wasnt as dynamic a ride as the ID8/9. Removing some of extraneous kit and adding discs may have perked it up a little.

I'm pondering a purchase of the Intercity 2, having dithered and delayed about the '23 hydraulic folder until no stock was left, albeit I was very unsure of my long covid and cycling at the time (I was limited to 30mins very light exercise a day by the Covid Clinic for most of that year). I could take it on our IOW hol next month (not been there at all since 20 years ago ddepsite being so close) via train/ferry, plus planned to visit family near Prestatyn on train soon too.

The question I'm asking myself is how often will I use it. In theory, it makes taking a bike on a train less complicated, but then I wonder about it getting damaged in the luggage area. As and when I start working again, it could become my commuter, if that's an option.

Having had my ebike for ~13 months, I think I've only taken my carbon road bike out for a ride outdoors maybe three/four times since, while my old commuter hybrid has had a similar number of trips for utility stuff. I thought I'd mix things up far more during my usual outdoor season Apr-Oct inclusive.

At ~93Kg, I do wonder how comfy 20"x1.75" tyres would be at a pressure I'd need, having never owned a folder. Noticed you can get some very low rolling resistance 20" Schwalbe slicks, which will help my speed a bit for my low power output beyond ~30mins, but not cheap.

I'm a similar weight and I run my ID9 tyres about 55-60 psi. A pretty plush ride and no problems thus far.

Read all about my ID9 train/bike adventure in London here. There was no problem on the train* apart from getting it into the luggage rack without getting in folks' way and finding the best orientation to put it in so bits didn't stick out. The most faff was taking all the accessories like lights off on the platform, storing them then folding the bike.

* Although the website said folding bikes were fine, when reading the small print in the T&Cs, technically the bike when folded exceeds the max luggage dimensions for normal luggage on LNER Azuma coaches. I reckon you're unlikely to have problems with the staff unless the bike inconveniences other passengers. In that case they might insist it goes in the outsize luggage areas.
