He's too smart. They tend to have bits of stuff clinging to them. Does the photo carry a warning that it's digitally enhanced?

Looks like it has been focus stacked. You get a thin depth of field at that magnification and only a small part is in focus - hence focus stacking which involves taking say 5 or more shots with different bits in focus and then merging them with software into one shot where everything is in focus.

I have friends who do similar with other insects. They also chill them in the freezer beforehand so they dont move during the time the images are shot.

It's a shame that soon as wasps are mention people just pick on the bad points. Probably because the evil bastards haven't got any good in them, the shittocks.
