Is this not a bit too expensive?

Barnet,
Just seen this on e-bay, surely this is a wind up, or are the bidders on to something special?

From what I can see, it is an old steel 531 Raliegh racing bike from yesteryear. My 1992 Dawes galaxy is 531 framed, it is worth more than I thought.

I would consider that very over priced.

I'd not pay that, no... but I'd take it if someone offered. Stuff's worth what people will pay for it.

Dunno what "shill bidding" is... but I can guess! I did think that maybe the seller has bid themselves or something.

I suspect the seller will be waiting a long time for payment ... two bidders (if they're real) with feedback ratings of 1 and 3 respectively ...

I'm wondering if it's a typo and they meant £20.50

I did that once ... put in a max bid of £1650 instead of £165, in the last ten seconds of the auction. This on a guitar which was £250 brand new. I ended up paying £320 for it, which of course I honioured since it was my mistake.

It is worth at most ten percent of asking price, it is a nice Record Ace and it has the Campag option but it's still not worth that much.

I know - I have sold three of them only one being in good enough nick to warrant anything near the £200 mark, the irony is that broken up for parts the Campag bits's on there own such as the chainset, mechs and shifters will probably make as much in total as the whole built up bike would.

Avoid ebay nobbers like the plague is my advice.
