My guess at the age would be 2007 although specialized can tell you that for certain, get the frame number and call a concept store.

Frame looks exactly like this.

Looking at it again, get a Triban 3 if your budget's £300.

My own thought is that the seller has not stated the age because the bike is getting on a bit but has not year reached the age where its desirable to the nostalgic bike fans. It has limited appeal IMHO

I would look at the Triban myself and I'm a self confessed specialized fan boy, its not like that bike has an amazing group set or anything such as that imho

£300 is a bit too much for me i think! Will get one in September when I get a student loan but I may decide I dont want to commute by bike and no be able to recuperate my money.

Viking? Is that what the vittesse is? Just a copy of the Viking? A guy I study with on here said that the vittesse sprint 21 was a decent bike that he had as a winter bike?

Ben.

Understood, but I'd not get the Viking!

Find something on here instead; there'll be bikes advertised regularly.
Also its difficult to find bikes in the for sale section as there isnt a bike specific section so its all a bit crazy!

I wouldn't touch that Vitesse bike with a bargepole.
Gripshifters on a drop-bar bike? Steel fork on an alloy frame? Weighs 15 kilos?
Get the Triban, It's a much better bike that'll last a while and be worth something when you come to sell it.

I'm with the Doctor on this, stay well clear of the Vitesse,i brought a cheapie new Viking and bits fell off it,spent over £400 upgrading it just to get a half decent bike. They are cheap for a reason.I cant see anything wrong with the Specialised, especially for a first timer. But whatever you choose just remember that you get what you pay for.

could anyone recommend a second hand bike i should look for other than the triban? for under £250?

Ben
You might find a Giant Defy 5 in your budget but only just.I would reccomend finding a couple of bikes close to you that you like the look of and then post up on here for advice.

If your budget is max £250 - how about this? A Raleigh Strada Sprint at £250. The only downside is that they've got it in Small (47cm) and Large (55cm) only, not Medium (51cm).

Aluminium frame, Shimano 2300 16-speed gears.

It looks like the same frame as my Raleigh Airlite although is apparently made by Diamondback and the same fork/bars/shifters. The chainset and brakes are the same as the standard Raleigh Team Sprint.
