I'm always amused at how some activities become stigmatised in people's eyes, usually due to uninformed hysteria in the media.

If the driver had been drinking a can of full-fat fizzy drink contaning high levels of sugar, would you have felt equally compelled to give him your thoughts on the matter?

Cans of full fat fizzy drink aren't allowed on school grounds now for pupils.

Anyway, if I was dropping a parcel off at a primary school and fancied a vape, I'd wait till I was on my way again. It just strikes me as bad form.

the fat kids would be up in arms if they could lift them...
Yup, the school my wife worked in, they were banned on premises, chocolate being the main one I remember. not for the kids, also not for the adults. But then the Head Mistress was certifiable.

I remember school teachers who smoked in class
My French teacher used to let the kids smoke in class (O Level, so age 15-ish). He explained that there was no way he could get thru' a 70 minute lesson without a fag, and in all conscience he didn't feel he could smoke himself and forbid others from doing likewise.

I'm not being confrontational here, but is that really so? God help us if it is
Why? I think that's excellent. Schools have a responsibility to care for the kids in their charge - seems to me that preventing them (or at least trying) from consuming such manifestly dangerous substances is in line with that care. The jury is out on the health impact of vaping, but the verdict on fizzy drinks couldn't be clearer: GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY!

With that can he's only harming himself. By breathing out nicotine he's potentially harming others

Nicotine is a poison.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotine

The only reason to use a Vaping device is to help come off traditional smoking. It's safer than cigarettes but not as safe as not vaping.
According to the Nicotine Poisoning page that is linked in that one, it takes quite a lot of nicotine to poison someone.

Let's hope the kids didn't walk to school down the side of a road as that's poisonous too. Then again if they used the car, there'll be poisons in the upholstery. No win really, the UK's children may as well give up now.

Thanks for being so informative, I'd never have guessed that it was.

Did you know that there is also nicotine in tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, cauliflower........ should we stop children eating those?

Edit: I'd also like to mention that not everyone you see vaping will be using e-liquid that contains nicotine.

But look at all the low exposure effects and the addictive nature of nicotine. As ever with "stuff" it's dose dependent. The fatal dose for potatoes is something like 100 kg (my office partner calculated that once). Some of the veggies you list are of the Solanaceae family as is Deadly Nightshade which is pretty toxic. However those veggies you mention have more benefit than risk so no worries. Balancing benefit with risk is the thing:okay:. There mostly isn't any benefit (unless addicted) to be ingesting "quantities" of nicotine is there? So why do it? TBH I don't care - each to their own for sure - but I really feel this fad should be practiced in the privacy of one's own home and not shared in public.

Nicotine has been used as an insecticide IIRC - the plants evolved it (and other poisons) to defend themselves I suspect - maybe if I had some in my blood stream the midges would leave me alone - or maybe they would just die after they'd bitten me.....

@Paul99 - I wasn't aware that there were nicotine free e-liquids. Thanks for that. What's in those and why would one use them?

Nice wee discussion going here guys. Thanks for the back and forth :okay: I'll stop now or this thread will be sent to the SC&P board ;)

Same as what's in the nicotine ones, less the nicotine!; Propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine and food flavourings.

Some people wean themselves off nicotine by using lower strength e-liquids until they are nic free. Giving up the nic is only half the battle for smokers though IMO. When I gave up using the NHS approved method the thing I missed most was the habit, the physical action. It's why I think I succumbed to it again.
