You need to be up around 34 or 35mph to do a 10 in under 20 minutes. I have done a bunch at low to mid 23 minutes but that was 20 years ago.

I think my best ever 10 back in the early 80s was around the high 24 minutes. I think nowadays it would be more like a 31/32 minutes ( with a good tail wind :-)

Riding the same kit as in my avatar, steel 531 frame, 32 spoke wheels, conventional handlebars, 6 speed block, road jersey, my fastest 10 was 22-13. 30 years ago. I reckon all the kit they use these days would take 2 mins off that.

My avatar was snapped on 21/5/67 - a mere 50 years ago. Riding an EG Bates, with 26" HP's, steel bars & stem and steel Williams C34 chain set.

Ended up that season with a 26:02 PB on that bike. Subsequently went a bit faster in 69, but not much faster but last year managed a 27:01 with pointy hats and tri bars.

There was a TT going on a few weeks ago on a Sunday morning. I spotted them as I was out on a casual ride around. Came round a bend and there was one of them right in front of me going along at a very slow pace, so I overtook said hello and that it wasn't often I would have the opportunity to overtake. This triggered off a stream of swearing and invective, not directed at me though, it turned out that he'd missed the marshal and turned off onto the wrong road.
