It's so easy to see how these wild fires start

Hi,
I was out cycling today down some quiet roads when a car came past and the passenger flicked a cigarette out of the window.
It happens all the while ,and under normal circumstances you don't think nothing of it, but as we're in the middle of a very dry spell every thing is tinder dry.
I stopped when I caught up to were the cig butt had landed and there it was burning away in the bone dry grass..I'm no expert but common sense to me indicated this would of started a fire.
I pulled it out of the grass and trod on it on the road to put it out.
Thankfully the straw coloured grass was not burning.
I wish people would stop and think for a moment before doing stupid things.
A grass fire caused by mindless peoples actions ties up our emergency services from other incidents..
Again last night around midnight I could hear fire works going off in the distance.
No wonder we're seeing all these sporadic wild fires

Tesco today are still selling disposable BBQs, coal, kindling etc right outside the door in huge stacks. If nothing else, it's in poor taste to be putting this out as "special buys"

Saw it today at the classic car show I was at. Grass,is tinder dry and smokers flinging their butt's without a thought. Mrs D remarked that could cost someone a lot of money or,even time in prison (criminal damage can be caused "recklessly" as well as deliberately, and arson is criminal da,age by fire.)

Sadly alot of people are doing it on purpose and kids are filming it for tiktok. Apparently 2 people arrested for the Stourbridge fire after fire got out of hand and 19 houses burnt to the ground and another 19 seriously damaged. My local fire station has 2 engines and they've both been out constantly for the last 2wks.

Quite a few videos online showing celebrations of 'Pakistan independence day' where they are letting off huge display fireworks, firing into the sky and ending up god knows where! This on the same day as we received a phone message to NOT let off fireworks!

Might as well mention that a lotof the bushfires in Oz are started by lightning strikes in remote areas.

Well no, but the supermarkets do sell cans of reformed ham. Presumably that’s pigs that have seen the error of their ways.

We've had a couple of fires over the years, that have started on the field behind our house - usually because of a discarded bottle or some such. One was last year and we were lucky we were in. This was near out shed, the heat coming off the ground was incredible. Spent an hour hosing it.

Fortunately, no-one was stupid this weekend at a pop up campsite on a farmer's field - it was literally straw dry and rock hard - used the drill to get the 'hard ground' tent pegs into the ground. No BBQ's or camp fires, and you could see why. The staff were patrolling and stopped at a neighbouring tent as they had a pile of wood. Just so happened they weren't planning to light it as they didn't have room in the van to store it. They also had a coal BBQ, but were told that couldn't be used. They appeared later that day with a new gas cooker and cannisters - I suspect they were going to BBQ until 'told'.

TBH they were a pain, starting the van for an hour twice a day (to charge phones with diesel), then left camp rubbish out all night - i.e. food/glasses/pots/pans, all strewn over their pitch. Had there been animals about there would have been a right mess. They quickly sprinted to tidy up when it rained in the morning. You dare not leave food out where we usually camp - it's well known that badgers get into tents and help themselves.
