I've just bought a plug in phone charger from Tesco for £17 then seen them on fleabay for about 4 quid!

I would stick with the Tesco one
at least you can take it back
and can be reasonably sure it is not some cheap knock-off disguised as a decent one

and you have it now
last thing I got from ebay had "rather optimistic delivery estimates"

Should I take it back and buy one off fleabay, or should I keep it thinking the Tesco one will be better quality? I'm not being a tight wad, but it's a big difference in price wouldn't you say! I bought the Tesco one as I need one asap to charge my new Samsung Galaxy A16 phone I've got to replace my old A10 phone. Having said I need one asap, I suppose I could wait a few days as my old phone still works. Will the Tesco one be better than those off fleabay or will it be more or less the same?🤔 I read the other day that 'pound shop chargers' are poor quality and could affect your device in the long term or even set on fire!!

Samsung usually supply the necessary charger and cable.

Never buy anything electrical that is cheap unless you are certain it is exactly what it claims to be.

I bought a decent Anker 6 USB port charger from Amazon a few years back. It's been reliable and quick. Cost about £30 but it has lasted 5 years so far. I would not plug a cheap charger into the mains of my house unless I stood over it watching it.

The problem with ebay and FB marketplace chargers / leads is alot of them are dangerous copies. We have a guy at work who we nicknamed the temu king, he was always asking me to pat test stuff he'd got. He stopped bring me stuff because most of the time I skipped them.

There was/is a guy who has a youtube channel where he takes electrical items apart and critiques them, I think he was Scottish

Don't new phones come with a charger?

Not anymore. They'll come with a lead bit no plug in charger. Something to do with there's millions already out in the world to use plus most people supposably have usb plugs in there homes and car's.

Oh Look! They don't supply chargers and earphones now because quote.....

Samsung smartphones come with a USB Type-C data cable, but they do not come with earphones or a charger plug in the box because we want to minimise the impact our products have on the environment.

So the customer then has to buy their own earphones and charger, wiping out the supposed Samsung minimised impact on the environment!!!

As I post my old phone is transferring all its data onto my new phone, set up by a phone geek who came into the friend's shop I was in this afternoon. It took him a while to set the transfer up,but he got there in the end. I used the new charger to charge the new phone up last night. It already had a 48% charge on. It took about 30 minutes to charge it up to 100%, so I suppose the Tesco charger is fairly fast. I Now have my 2 phones next to each other while the data transfer takes place, probably being completed at about 11pm, according to the phone geek.

It is not clear to me why you needed to buy a charger. Presumably, you had a charger for the A10 could you not have just replaced the USB lead with a USB-C lead?, which, I would expect was included with the A16 phone.

Samsung provide (free) App (SmartSwitch) which will transfer the data from your old phone to your new phone, no need for a "geek".
