It makes a change to read of a car driver getting her just deserts for causing the death of a cyclist. She has been remanded in custody pending sentencing next month, which would indicate that she is about to be on the receiving end of a substantial custodial sentence.
I hope any driver tempted to use their phone while driving reads this report and takes heed of the potential circumstances for everyone involved. Sadly, they probably won't.

Reckon this is probably a first at least for females. I certainly don't remember any females in prison in my 25 years for this. Lets hope they make an example.
PS. I worked in one in case anyone thinks I've done a 25 year sentence.......although it felt like it at times!

There's a downside. Every day on demand counts as 2 off the sentence, so ultimately she'll serve less time than if they waited until she was sentenced before locking her up.

She could have got off with a fine if only she'd blamed the cyclist. Any jail time is simply for perverting the course of justice.

@Mo1959 never said it was a female prison she was in!
Was though......and yep, was Cornton Vale. In fact, when I joined, it was the only option until equal opportunities came in.

Garbage.

She was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and will be sentenced for that.

No doubt you will think the sentence too short, but you should attempt at least a modicum of accuracy to support your comments.

She was unlucky. Sometimes the cops don't even bother to check the mobile phones of a killer driver.

On at least two occasions killer drivers explained that "the sun was in my eyes" and faced no charges.

And similar cases, where a rider is run down from behind in clear daylight, have seen reduced charges laid.

No one ever expects anyone to serve anything but half the sentence, so 2-4-1 sounds about right

"His sister, Mhairi Laffoley, said the effect of the incident on her family had been "horrendous. She told the court: "My parents died within 12 weeks of the accident."

She will carry the fact that three people died due to her selfish actions for the rest of her life, and rightly so!
