Has its ups and downs. If things go wrong it can cost the company circa £15k/day - so lots of pressure for it not to or fix it quick on the rare occasion it does.
But then I work 4 weeks then have 4 weeks off. I very much like the 'off' bits. Dunno if I could put up with only getting weekends off.

Lift operator?

I used to love my job as a starting stalls handler with race horses, done that job for 14 years or more and have five months off during the winter to do other stuff ... then last year they they booted all 40 of us off the payroll and employed freshman for half the price they were paying us, thats the wrisk of being self employed on short term contracts.

I now work for myself as a handyman ...slow start but getting there

Tsk. Part timer.

My job is full time, but I have this mad woman lawyer in the office next to me who works 9.30 am to 10.00 pm seven days a week. So I feel part time, even though I'm not, if you see what I mean.

Love being an architect, it's not so much a job as a way of living... as with everything like some bits more than others.

Planners and box ticking red tape can be irritating but you have to have them to realise how good the good bits are.

... bit like steep hills, once you've got over them you feel fantastic...

i get to speak to Yanks all day and that in itself is amusing, last questions i got was " are you winston churchill grandson"

and i just get back from New York for a week then off to LA and Vegas in November.

So love it

Self employed, work from home, love what I do. Only downside is fitting it around the kids, so work all kinds of weird hours, but that's fine because I'm generally working stuff out in my head anyway, even if I'm not supposed to be working.:blush:
It drives everyone mad when I disappear mid conversation/activity because something occurred to me which I can't ignore, and will forget if it's not recorded instantly.
But it took me years of doing things I hated to get here, so they just have to lump it.;)

Lol! Yep - I am all of those things....:laugh:

I love my job as a greenkeeper.

I work 7-8 months a year outside in all weathers; get well paid and do enough overtime that is equivalent to two months salary, plus holiday pay, which is about six weeks money.

I have two good bosses, play plenty of golf in work time, and get a great deal of satisfaction out of what I do.

Oh, and I have 4-5 months off in the winter to hibernate!

Don't like mine much and don't have the enthusiasm required to do it really well. At some point I'm going to run out of steam and have to move on. In the meantime I seem able to convince people that I'm doing a good job.

Bits of mine are really exciting, and bits of it are tedious. I wouldn't swap the exciting bits for anything! If I could change anything about my job it would be having more of a social life around work. There's nothing like that where I work and I have enjoyed that aspect of working at other places.

On reflection, my job really does have it all, if 'all' is the full spectrum of human emotions in all its roller-coaster-like intensity...academia is a funny world. Funny-weird, not funny-ha ha.
