In the past two months I've moved from quietly winding transformers to setting up from scratch a full production cell with a turnover of £7M a year, managing 12 staff (more to recruit) and having full technical responsibility for the finished products. I've been working 60 hour weeks and am having my first day off tomorrow (1st wedding anniversary already - hasn't it gone quick)

I'm knackered, forgotten what my bikes look like and bearly see daylight these days.

But I love it!

Well, I'll send a report in tomorrow - all guns blazing... not taking this crap sitting down - line manager is a grumpy old git (and he admits it) but he can be very offensive, especially as everyone thinks they will be up for the chop (redundancy).

Happy in my job too, very nearly went for another one this year but am glad I stayed. Chuffed with the managers I've got as well, decent people who respect what we do.

It has gone mental orders wise recently which is good for the bike bits and bobs fund.

Love it, I work for myself, downsized 5 years ago and do what I want when either I want or have to. I've a weekly target to make to pay my way in the world and if I have hit that by say, Tuesday or Wednesday, then I don't press on and make more, I think, Wahey! I don't have to do anything for the rest of the week............... and I don't:biggrin:

I have an Nokia E71 and a handlebar phone holder, that's my office, god bless technology, it set me free:biggrin:

I like mine a lot better since I moved onto nights and don't have management constantly breathing down my neck and moaning about stats, etc. It can get stressful at night as there is only 2 of us covering the whole country, but at least you are left to get on with it. Plus it works on 3-4 nights on, 6 or 5 off, which is great! The only thing is I find I'm spending more money with all the extra free time...

God, love mine, I don't think I could write a better job description. OK, there are a few downsides but they're pretty whingy. I work with some lovely ladies in nice sorroundings, get enough freedom to do the job without much hassle, get to have plenty of fun whilst doing it, travel a fair bit and fairly well respected for my abilities.
However, prior to this I went through 4 years of stress job hell which nearly killed me, literally, so I know what it is to have a crap job with crap bosses etc, sympathies.
The world changes, my team is a small part of a big re-organisation. It could all end tomorrow, but I can't worry about that.
I guess the downside is that my commute isn't even 10 mins cycling on my pub bike long...

Did 2.5 years working for really poor managers having had a great manager for the previous 2. Work was miserable and i eventually got out of the management post i was in by reverting to a lower grade. Since i left i have been replaced by 4 people doing the work i was doing. I went to go and do an operational job but 3 years down the line i've found that the ops room and me don't get on too well.

I've just started back in a training role and have to say I'm really looking forward to it. The management has changed at the top of the unit and the place has changed alot since i left three years ago. it seems to be a much better working environment.

It's the end of my first week back there and i'm happy, hopefully it'll stay that way.

Here's a thing...I am a line manager, and keep being told by the people I manage that I am a very good line manager. And they also tell my line manager this. So why do they make my life so difficult?
