Just back from Spreewald

I have just had a week over in Spreewald in Germany- hired bikes for a couple of days and loved it! Miles and miles of cycling, and very cyclist-friendly towns: racks outside every shop and all large roads have shared pavement.

There's a lot of longish tours out there- we were mostly on the Spreewaldweg and the Gherkin Way (honestly) but there are nearly a dozen to choose from. They are all well-marked with symbols ranging from the sensible Brandenburger Tor to laughing devils and happy gherkins riding bikes.
Next time I plan to drive over with my own bike and / or do a full loop of one of the tours.

However, after a few days of flat cycling where you can go on and on, and on, getting back on the hundred-foot climbs of the South Downs Way today was a bit of a shock...
