Evan Almighty, enough with the puns already!
Thank Evans, for little girls.....

(I'll get my coat. Probably need it at the police station.)

I bought my wife's bike and a Trek tag-a-long from them a long time ago - no real issues, but I knew what we wanted. I bought their best Pinnacle hybrid for my wife and the Trek as I knew what we wanted for my daughter. My wife had a look at the bikes, but because I knew the specifications, I steered her towards the better bikes - mainly as she had never had a good level bike. We didn't look back.

Get what you want. The sales person may have pointed you to a bike with the same components but cheaper - he should have explained the difference.

Most shop assistant's don't know anything about bikes. When I bought the bikes, the mechanic came out to answer my questions, and was a bit lost when I said we were buying them, as he hadn't had sales training...

It's a general bike shop, but it should have more specialist staff in place. I'd love to work in a bike shop, but the pay is terrible.

When I lived in East Anglia, I used to visit the Norwich branch fairly often. Great staff in there and got loads of odds and ends from them. Never a whole bike though, although I nearly did. I found them to be a great bunch of people, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Helpful without being pushy. All they needed was a coffee machine and the place would have been perfect

I hate supermarket style modern bike shops...give me an old one, squeeze through a path made through loads of stuff, parts on walls, in parts bins, a jumble of display cabinets etc etc. I like random not antiseptic shops.

I would commend to the OP the 'Click and Collect' service offered by Evans to customers who don't feel they need or want advice from a sales assistant. I used this service during my last foray into the southern latitudes and was entirely satisfied both on price and availability. The sales assistant also provided welcome advice regarding another product.
Excellent people to deal with:smile:.

We've had this discussion loads before here but the reality is that most first-time buyers, inexperienced cyclists etc etc hate those old style places and feel much more comfortable in Halfords/Evans/Decathlon, regardless of whether they would ultimately be better served in the old style places or not

Never ever EVER! go in the Assos Shop on Regent Street. It's how the future will look when all disease, poverty and death have been eradicated.

Here's a picture of when I asked to try on a skin suit....
