More than two years after its purchase the CdF still only has the one cheap ally cage fitted, liberated out of necessity from my old Giant during the great Covid component vacuum of 2020.

I had managed to score a pair of seemingly ideal Topeak tubular ally cages, but these got returned as they were welded on the pish and I could find no reassurance that any other examples of these I might source would be any different.

I'm still on the lookout for a pair of decent quality, traditional-looking metal cages to complement the steel frame. Ally would be fine if I could find some decent ones, but they all seem to fall short in one way or another, while Ti is too exotic / pricey. I'm not too keen on the idea of Stainless due to its density, however the King items are apparently around 48g each which isn't the end of the world.

I don't cover the mileage that I once did however with the weather as hot as it is currently I could easily blast through the one bottle on a ride so I could really do with sorting the cage situation.

Does anyone have any experience of King's stainless bottle holders? How do you find them for quality, bottle retention, ease of use etc?

Ta

I can't comment on the King's, but I use these and they're great;

As an alternative... I have Lezyne ones on my steel Genesis, work very well and look good. Might get more for my Condor at some point

Thanks both! They look like decent solutions, although I'm really after something more traditional-looking..

I have a pair of the stainless steel traditional styled King cages on my tourer. They have been excellent, held on to the bottles, springy and no rust. There may well be just as good alternatives but these are fine and have done what is really a simple task, well.

Excellent. I have iris ones.

Q spot on
BR no issues over a wide range of bottles
EoU Very good, firm hold but not too firm.

Would recommend, but don't be a total div like me.

We need to see evidence that you’ve pulled up your socks on the bison front, Roubaix. Let you off the Iris debacle, but those bottles! Camelback Podiums might suit your classic look, if you haven’t already cleaned up your act!

Ah. Um. Well...

[rummages around in the back of the spares drawer for excuses...]

I did have four matching decathlon transparent types - one of which currently remains available, the others purloined by kids.

So this is the current "look"...

Please forgive me.

Thanks - really appreciate your input as it's helping to make the decision easier!

lol - thanks; I remember that thread first time around

Did you go for the Iris just on aesthetic ground or were there functional reasons too? I quite like the idea of the traditional ones as they keep the aesthetic a bit more retro..

Thanks to everyones' input it seems that I might have actually reached a decision, and may put my hand in my pocket a bit later; especially after yesterday's need to fill my single bottle en-route to avoid getting heat exhaustion

For "bison", I'm so glad you read "bidon". Well done on the Podia. You are forgiven.
