MacB will sit in the warmth of his garage and smoke a few coffin nails...weigh up the pros and cons I'm sure. The corrosion proof fitting proposed by MacB will be better for not getting broken when moving things around, remember that tubes contain (or at least used to not sure if they still do) small amounts of mercury that is poisonous.
Also If the garage is unheated - the corrosion proof fitting will be better for longevity and also for light output in winter as the tube can come up to temperature quicker.
If you're not worried about the mercury, longevity of the fitting or light output go for the other ones.
if you're buying fluorescents go for colour 860. Absolutely nothing else will do.

absolutely - but if you have the choice put them behind an upstand, and have the light go upward. You'll be a changed man.just googled and 860/865 is daylight, fortunately an option I'd already decided on for the garage, would you rate it for kitchen use as well?

don't mess with 865 - just go straight to the 860s
(Buy some spares for when they fail also, as a yellow tube alongside a 'white' one is just SO threeshadesmcginty...)shudders - Con Every Fecker. neweys or edmunsons . although if you want cheap then online is good . we got Ikea ones as the lamp itself looked good - 5w and we have 8 on 2 quad bars in the kitchen and have them directed where we need for specific light but the spread is fairly good.Sorry MacB... yes Gu10 [50w] can be replaced with 7w [may even be able to get 11w] LEDs which should give you excellent light. Try City Electrical Factors -they might have an outlet near you, usually on industrial estates.
