Bad experience sub? I've got Phillips and Thorn stuff from CEF over the years and never had a problem... with trade discount so cheaper and decent returns service when I've had to swap things over.
Got 2 early LEDs from Ikes, think they were the 5w ones too... still going strong!
Don't like daylight bulbs myself but each to their own.

They are the Halfords of the electrical wholesale industry. Shitty electical factors is another name commonly heard used to describe them

Wait a minute! You were intending on paying us in much the same way that you always claim that you're going to get the next round in!

Ah, the penny's finally dropping, there are those that are born to fetch drinks and answer kitchen, garage and lighting questions. No point getting all uppity about it that's just the way things are, ask Linfy

MacB, in the garage, have you considered adding a small spot or reading lamp for fine/delicate work, like soldering for example? Dunno if you even have a workbench in there but I find such a lamp handy for fiddly work where very good light is needed.

The lads at the Denton branch in Newcastle are always helpful, and I don't get unbranded stuff so I suppose there will be a few decent people at places like Halfords!

Mac's more lump hammer and crowbar, in fact his idea of close work is a lump hammer with a short handle.

CEF are a funny company (even funnier now that a spectacular fall out has resulted in 2 companies), it's like they are still trying to come to terms with the internet age, there is no hidden information today, wholesale, trade, retail prices are found with a click. I'd have discount structure from them and buy a roll of cable for say £127.00, but with discount of 92%! An unwary person (without magical discounts) turning up at their counter can pay something ridiculous like £16 for a packet of 6" tye-raps that I'd pay maybe .99p for.Their managers are under pressure to achieve exceptionally high gross profit margins.

Ah, I have to admire the machiavellian ingenuity of your scheme. One thing puzzles me, though: just how does buying lots of expensive bits, building them up into bikes and then selling them at huge loss fit into this, though?

It's an ability that the more mundane amongst us are never able to appreciate
