As long as I breathe, I attack.
I am currently off the bike as i have hurt my knee when riding home just over a week ago i got a sharp pain at the front of the knee when riding out of the saddle so i took a couple of days off the bike then attempted to ride to work this week but even though i was taking it steady the pain didn’t go away and even increase to the point where it hurts every pedal stroke and it aches whilst sitting here .Walking doesn’t make it hurt more and i can jump up and down, climb stairs etc with no more discomfort .
I have tried ice, heat , ibuprofen gel and voltarol to no avail so i saw the doctor yesterday and i have been given naproxen but it doesn’t affect the pain at all  I have a feeling i have a torn meniscus in this knee now .
I do have private health care so can get it sorted but after my last operation last year i had a meeting with HR as i have had a lot of time off in the last 3 and a half years due to injuries so i am dreading the fall out going forward if i need more time off work .

I have had torn meniscus twice - both knees.
Both times I could hardly walk for months.
Stairs? No way, even walking downhill was very painful.
Ime, torn meniscus is sore continuously, not only while cycling.

i had surgery for it on the other knee 2 years ago so i know what its like, weirdly with that one i could ride my bike with no issues but it hurt to walk a lot .This one hurts in a similar place but atm it hurts to cycle but i can do squats and jump up and down etc and it doesnt hurt more .

Front of knee pain is less likely meniscus, more likely get pain around the side. Look up anterior knee pain/patellofemoral syndrome and see if that matches
Maybe use your PMI for an MRI after a few weeks rest. Surgery isn’t really indicated for meniscus tears with only intermittent pain and no locking or buckling

Just ordered a patella strap to see if it helps and started doing exercises to build inner quad strength as these were recommended last time i had knee pain for they knew it was a meniscus tear .

Given the physical nature of your job, how do you know it’s not work related.

Reading this thread with interest. I've got issues with one knee right now. No idea what caused it as I was walking along a supermarket carpark and suddenly my knee went all painful and it hurt to bend my knee. I was able to walk ok but lifting my leg up for stairs would be an issue.

I had a meniscal tear a decade or so ago and it caused mostly locked up knee but occasionally It gave way. Stairs were a bit risky when that happened. I got it shaved and it was ok afterwards. I was in for surgery one day and they cancelled after I had been in a surgery gown for 7 hours. months later i got it done. In the meantime I was told to continue riding my bike as the regular motion is good for the knee with it being non load bearing and in a regular direction. Walking and running tends to have a degree of twisting which cycling do not have.

My current knee issue is ok walking but stairs are a bit painful. The pain is under the knee cap (patellar) and to the outside side of the patella. I currently have a knee brace on it but that is not working. A little pressure under the patella seems to help so the patella strap is possibly a good idea. I had an elbow issue that was helped by a similar strap on the forearm just below the elbow. Perhaps the OP might find that works. I think I will look for one too. Especially since I have to cycle to work tomorrow. Or at least about 15 minutes from the train station to a training course. The only way there.

If it is an issue with the patella tracking out of allignment then there is a good exercise where you stand leaning with your back against the wall. You lower yourself down until your legs are at an angle of 120 degrees at the knee with your feet shoulder width apart. You hold that for some time then straighten up. Then repeat ten times or as many as you can if less. It strengthens your muscles around your knee in a safe way that helps with the stability of the knee and patella. No idea if that is right for the OP but if you have no knee issues it is a good idea to do this to keep that situation.

Good luck in getting your knees sorted.
