What did the X-ray show?

X-rays are not always reliable. My GP said mine showed a small amount of wear and tear on my patella and I would have to put up with it. I went to see a consultant who took an MRI scan. Apparently, my patella is too high up, which usually happens in much younger people (I am 68). I have had physio for about a year, which hasn't really improved things. Cycling is OK, but anything weight bearing hurts. The physio had improved the mobility of my patella, but not enough to fix the problem. I am having an operation in a couple of weeks to relocate my patella.

The MRI gives you a 3D image of your patella which makes diagnosis more accurate in a lot of cases. In my particular case I can hear my patella clicking when I do something like going up and down stairs.

Indeed but he said the GP had referred him for an X-ray so I was curious if it showed articular cartilage degeneration as mentioned by physio 2 (unless he meant meniscus cartilage which could also go hand in hand with arthritis). OP hasn’t mentioned pain around kneecap but medially
I’ve had a number of MRIs so familiar with that they can show (X-ray good for seeing loss of joint space)

As long as I breathe, I attack.
new exercises really hurt !
Also been told to ride hills out of the saddle to stress the inner quad more , suits me fine TBH as i have for a long time tried to sit and spin but im more of a natural contandoresque stand and wiggle climber .
I have noticed although i am not changing weight i have started to loose muscle and must be gaining a bit of podge so i have looked at my diet and training and realize i have lost my way a bit compared to how i used to be so the MTFU head has been installed and i am determined to get back to where i should be .
Doesnt help i turned 55 10 days ago

Still swollen and pain at times , getting referral to private health care for a scan

I hope they can get to the root of the problem. I am just resting after my knee operation nearly three weeks and I am going to the consultant tomorrow to have my stitches removed.

Good luck @cyberknight

I’ve got some ongoing right knee ‘discomfort’ that’s clearly here to stay. In light of the fact I have a confirmed (By X-ray) broken Avulsed Spur in my elbow going back to November - that I was initially told would take upto 5 months to even be seen by the NHS Orthopaedic Team [Who I’ve still not heard from yet 🤦‍♂️] let alone be Operated on - I’ve decided to at the very least get my knee issue diagnosed privately: to then decide where to go from there…….

Took an MRI to show the extent of the loss of cartilage in my knee and that it was now "bone to bone". Had lots of X-Ray over the years but the MRI gives the doctors more information. Urgent referral to a specialist team to be measured for my brace.
Still can't walk any distance but able to get rid of the walking sticks and start cycling again. Physio reckons this is the best way to strengthen the muscles etc in my leg and that will boost my mobility again.

took the day off the bike today as the weather is downright miserable, although cycling doesn't make it hurt any worse im not going out getting cold and wet either for fun

took mini ck 1 swimming sat and breast stroke motion wasnt pleasant at all  , finally got my appointment through for the scan

Front crawl with bad knees, or put float between and use arms. Breaststroke knee pain sounds like kneecap
I hope scan goes well. I had mine and the results aren’t the best as anticipated.

it was a "fun float session" not enough room to do any proper swimming without ploughing into a sprog on a floaty thing but it was for mini ck2 benefit not mine .
Aching now as i have been kneeling down to service play into 2 cup and cone wheels .
