over the last 6 months i have been having big knee problems, it has affected my right knee more. the problem i have is when my knee cap is pushing to the outside of my knee and putting more pressure on this area making it hard to cycle for long distances.

i was just wondering if anyone has had this problem and what they have done to get over it. i have been told i may need surgery to rectify it but i dont wish to go down that route.

many thanks.

See a specialist and ask about strengthening excersizes.

If your knee cap is misaligned then the chances are it is due to ITB problems....google ITB problems and there is looodes of info on this.

You may need to see a sports physio that specialises in Cycling ?

Very tricky really. Have you made any bike changes, how long have you been cycling, and shoe alterations etc ?

i have been told that cycling isnt causing the problem, i am a electrician so i do a fair bit off kneeling at work.

i have also been told to do small bits of cycling each day on the rollers and swimming.

my right knee is worse than my left so i guess it will be just a matter of time before my right knee feels the effect.

i have been cycling for about 4/5 months before this problem, i have felt fine during this period. i had knee problems about 2 years ago as well so it could be work causing the problem.

Theres the problem !

Stop kneeling at work !

Sit on your ass instead :welcome:

Or get a small stool

- I quit the cycling & just do swimming.

The surgery like you said should be a total last resort. !!!!!!!!!!!

i am on light duties at work until this problem gets better so i am doing little kneeling which is helping, i would like to continue with the cycling but keep going with swimming first to improve the knees.
