Ouch, Sorry to hear that.
You were riding along, by the sound of things, quite visible, maybe the driver should get his eyes tested.
Hope you heal well and get the bike sorted, best wishes.

Yeah its shocking he didn't see me at all, I saw him roll up to the give way line what seemed like a good 30 seconds before he accelerated into the side of me ! One witness whose house was right outside where I was hit (kindly looked after my bike) said his eyes were drawn to me through the window of his house because of how bright the orange jacket was! But to the benefit of the driver he was polite and kind enough to give me a lift home.

Poor you and poor bike!
Hope this gets sorted soon, at least you're mobile.
GWS!

I think it is because motorists don't look properly at the foreground but tend to concentrate mostly on the middle ground as they know a car will show right away in the foreground due to its size. Cyclists don't come into their minds as they think cars all the time. I always start with the foreground, the middle ground and foreground again before I move off at crossroads but it's possibly due to my training.

Ohh no it's not !! Folk look but don't see. That's what happened to me, driver gambled on a gap between cars that had a bike in the gap - didn't fixate on a bike with a high powered front light pulsing at him ?

I'm riding a 250kg purple motorbike with lights on and a yellow high vis (coated in road muck) and people don't always see me, they'e looking for something large and bumbling along - I know I can be guilty of it too when I'm driving although I try not to be.

I guess despite wearing Hi-vis clothing and flashing lights we can at times become invisible!

Has your serious injury put you off road cycling? I'm having serious concerns being the second RTC in the space of a year.

And yet, somehow, they see cars despite most not being hi-vis  GWS

forgot to mention, I can sometimes be next to them holding my horn down and letting the engine rev high and they still come into my lane

steel plates on the edge of my boots have yet to contact a car however, I'm too busy braking!

The 'What can the RAF teach us' is a scary article which explains ( but in no way excuses the SMIDSY phenomenon :-/
Touch wood I've been able to avoid the SMIDSY just but unfortunately I have been taken out by bad driving :-(

@Mm87, thread titled Accident Advice on here, in Commuting and Utility Cycling, have a gander at it. (Link added, in blue).

To repeat what others have said, get yourself checked and then the bike. You bought it from Halfords so what's wrong with going back to where it was bought with it. They're a known cycle dealership.

Bother about the person(yourself) first and the bike second. It can't feel anything.

Not a good day , sorry to hear this ,
I was cleaned up when I was 14,almost 50 years ago now . No chance of any compensation then , just tough luck , Cops not overly interested as I remember , was in Oldham Infimary for a week or so , doubt I would bounce back as quick these days !
I have had countless near misses lately , one today at a mini roundabout in Richmond . apart from ignoring the roundabout markings the lady driver didn't see me either . I am thinking of getting a cam , I've just read some diffs of opinion here on CC . but in a case there are no witnesses to depend on , the collision recorded would give the drivers insurance little to argue about .
Any way , hope it all ends not to badly , GWS

Hi all, After getting the ball rolling with a no win no fee solicitor today I took my bike down to Halfords to get a quote for the repairs on the bike (Boardman sport road bike), I was hoping the bike would have had a twisted frame so it could have been written off and i would of had the whole bike replaced.... but no such luck! Lol, despite the big hit from the car (side on) the frame shows no signs of damage, the parts needing replacing are the rear wheel, saddle, tyre and tube and bar tape, including labour cost just under £200, tbh not too happy that I'll be riding around on a bike that took a big hit, even with the replacement parts i see the bike now in a poorer condition (less than a year old) but I suppose that's the way it goes! At least the repair is not coming out of my own pocket!
