Think that through a bit - it would be carnage as soon as those on lap 2 start to merge with those on lap 1

I'm half asleep so this could be nonsense, but if the repeated section width is split in half and the first lap is on the outer ring, riders on their second lap on the "inner circuit" won't interfere with those on their first lap?

Yesterday's finish was a right flop wasn't it. Minor tweaks of a second here and there.

Agree I enjoyed it, I think there will still be some GC moves today despite the shortened course and stage 20 should be an exciting stage. The Bora boys have nothing to lose and attacks by them can be used by Vin & Joao to attack each other.
Pidders will need eyes in the back of his head.

Fingers crossed.

Yesterday was shaping up to be an interesting finale but then there seemed to be a rather glum "lets get this over with" mood in the riders. Pelizzari went off and everyone else said "nah". There was a bit of minor sprinting. Done.

That grim burnt landscape didn't help. Tour of Mordor.

That's the future of bike racing if people keep electing do-nothing idiots, innit? 🙁

If they can only secure 12km of road couldn't they have done two laps or something?
Can the organisers organise? With all the abrupt shortenings and allegations of timing kit either not present (last week) or in the wrong place (Tue), plus the whole "we can't exclude them" when it looks like they've not even tried beyond asking Sylvan 'brassneck' Adams nicely... well, it's descending into farce, isn't it? I'm sure Prudhomme and Gouvenou would handle this better if it happened at the Tour. Release the Badger!

The removal of gazprom/katusha was swift and frankly painless . The "bad precedent" often used to excuse this failure of leadership is back to front . The real bad precedent is NOT removing IPT . We know how to do this . We did it .

It probably helped control who could access the finish line / final climb. basically if you couldn't ride a bike you weren't going up there, made it easier for the race security.

Hopefully stage 20 will be same, its just a road up to ski station and radio antenna site I believe, despite its proximity to Madrid.

Maybe add a Scaletrix-style lane crossover for a bit of extra jeopardy

Can we have some banked corners as well? If we're splitting the road in two for 1st and 2nd lap we might need a bit more surface to work with or the corners will get pretty tight. Trackies will love it, 42 degrees.

This race has fizzled out....as close as it was the excitement has gone out of it.
Be lucky if it even gets to Madrid.

I've said before that close doesn't = exciting. Not knowing who will win can make it tense, but what we really want to see is the leader's jersey going backwards and forwards, with multiple attacks every day. This has been like watching a boxing match go to points because both fighters just kept jabbing and defending, neither going for any big punches in case they opened up to a counter or punched themselves out before the final rounds.

It's been pretty rubbish since the start, the main interest has been UAE's antics. Still, some contrarian new to the sport and trying to be cool will say it's the best of the GTs (I can't believe that I actually saw people claiming that prior to the start - I'm used to people saying it with the Giro but the Vuelta has always been the slightly weird baby sibling).

Well it did start out a bit better - though many had already written it off as inevitable Vingegaard dominance. Vingegaard launched a couple of attacks in not altogether predictable places (I didn't think those final climbs were hard enough to do much on), Gaudu cheated Mads P out of a stage win, but since the Bilbao stage (where Vingegaard was again aggressive and racing for the win) it's gone downhill.

I agree that the Vuelta is the least interesting of the GTs by quite a long way, you'd have to be a seriously dedicated contrarian to claim anything otherwise.
