What do you think the least amount of money you could live on food wise per day? Going to have to do a VERY serious budget for the next couple of months, and wondering what is the smallest / least amount i could live on. Will not need to include drinks, as i very rarely drink, but i do love coffee (fresh) and fruit. What advice or receipes would you reccomend xx

Fair weathered, fair minded but easily persuaded.
Soup or a mince dish and chuck loads of veg in for bulk.

I do lots of bulk cooking for work and i reckon i can make a meal for 70p.

June , last year my wife and were living separately for reason of no importance to this thread except for some reason we challenged ourselves to live on three pounds a day each food wise.

The rules were.
Whatever we had in the cupboards already could be used up and didn't come out of the budget.

If ate at friends/family that was a bonus.

We were aloud to except free gifts, like eggs, cakes etc.

No eating out.

No booze.

No cheating.

It's was a challenge but we did it.

We won't be doing it again. Ever.

Aren't fruit and veg very cheap on the continent, if you buy from market? Sadly too late to start growing your own now!
If you don't buy meat, I would say 5 Euros is plenty, just make lots of vegetable stews with tomatoes and potatoes, pasta, pulses, fresh bread.
I'm just back from our local Tesco's, got a big turnip, bag of sliced carrots, 2 kg of potatoes all for 60p.
I will do them in the slow cooker, with tinned tomatoes and chilli oil I make myself when I get a bag of fresh chillies for 10p.
There are many variations on this.
I'm not on a budget, indeed I spend more on my cat's food than on mine, but I like lots of veg - and don't like the look of the meat in the supermarkets.

Invest in plants and save a few quid I would say . Speedy salad can be bought for a couple of quid for the seeds , two weeks later you have salad leaves you can cut off when you need them . Tomato and pepper plants will be cheap now as they are fruiting so snap them up and get them in the ground without disturbing the roots .

Back when I packed in work I calculated that for £25 per week on food I could be quite comfortable without missing too much. Eggs and cheese are your friends. Look out for "sandwich meat" type ends at the cooked meat stand, the chunky pieces especially go well with tomato and onion.

Try the food banks..most who seem to use them can afford tipped cigarettes and cheap booze..but no money for food..

but id think beens spuds and veg, my wife lived on virtually nothing when her first husband cleared off leaving her with 2 kids a mortgage and a 120k loan for a lorry..

As long as you can cook, are imaginative, can plan meals and aren't seduced by marks n Spencer adverts you can eat very well for sod all shopping at the discount supermarkets and still leave a bit for the odd treat curry-out or similar.
