Back in the day people would use it to help stop the so called lactic acid, never tried it so no idea if it works.
The market is flooded with supplemental products which do that. BCAA's and taurine help.

But we're they in use by time trial riders 40 years ago. I know of one now deceased club rider who would try and get twenty cups of coffee down on club 10 day, doubt he slept much those nights.

LOL I've had high caffeine at the start of an event and it feels like you're about to totally freak out, so uncomfortable but once you're started and pushing on you feel great.
