I haven’t seen any luggage in any of your photos. Are you carrying a rucksack?
I do have a small rucksack, yes. I could get by with it, but my parents are doing it as a road trip, so I get to have fresh clothes without carrying the things!

:hello: :hello: from me, currently sitting in a flat in Glasweegieland, as you pass by ... :bicycle:
Yeah, Glasgow was a wee bit of a gauntlet to navigate. My Great Aunt lives there, so It ried to drop by, but I don't think she was in!

Day 10
A bit dreich today...

Closing in on the highlands now! The Kilpatrick Hills loomed over me for the final portion of today's ride.

Day 11 - The Glencoe Chain Massacre

The day started with a cruise up to Loch Lomond, then up the cycle path. Which was a wee bit shite at times.

At one point I was getting weed whacked and dabbled with the A82 for a few miles.

It was at this point that the chain really started jumping. I pulled back onto the A82 to nurse it to Tarbet, to take a good look, whereupon it promptly snapped!

So that was phase one of the ride. I didn't have a master link tool to cannibalise the backup bike... so I moved my key gubbins across and mounted the backup bike. After lunch.

After lunch it was the classic run up the A82 from Tarbet.

Not too busy, thankfully.
I don't really have any commentary for this section, the photos speak for themselves!

Got soaked by the clouds down through Glen Coe, and the light was fading, so I'll do the wee little 15 mile stint to Fort William tomorrow, on my rest day.

What ? No Quick-Link ? :okay: ;)
Tremendous photos :bravo:– it's a great road to Glencoe but can be very busy.
I'm really enjoying your ride ! ^_^
Oh, there was a quick link... I just couldn't find/didn't have the tool for it! I do have a chain breaking tool, but didn't fancy trying to put it back together without a spare pin.

Day 12 - Rest Day or TT Stage?

Finishing yesterday in Glen Coe meant I still had to make my way to Fort William - a mere 25 km.

I could afford to have a bit of fun this morning!

Under 200 miles to go now. The Cannondale got sorted out today, so hopefully that's the glitch for the mission...

It's starting to feel like the end is in sight now - I've ridden 300 km before. Not for a while, but I am feeling in pretty fine fettle!

Tomorrow is Inverness, and then I intend to make the final push to John O'Groats via the Cromarty Ferry, and onto the A9. There is a hotel in Thurso, so it is splittable if necessary.

There’s a little brewery at Cromarty, their Red Rocker is the stuff of legends

Unfortunately seems a wee bit early to be drinking. I do hope to maybe get up to Wick in time to drop by the Old Pulteney distillery, as I could probably afford a dram at that point, but it does set a hard pace. If I set off too early then it just has to be up the A9 due to timetables (probably quiet early in the morning!).

Day 13 - Loch Ness Monster Climb
And so, the penultimate day yesterday.

I set off from Fort William with about the best view if Ben Nevis so far:

Then it was straight up the A82 to Fort Augustus.

Having reached Fort Augustus and Loch Ness, it was time for the big climb of the day, on the back road to Inverness.
