popped into my nearest lidl on the way home tonight on the off chance they had their cycle gear out early and they did!

all looks good value for money, they had everything in stock apart from the guys cycle shorts (after i'd convinced myself lycra would work as well!). So, I invested in:

3 cycle shirts (2 red, one black) £6 something each
1 set of extra lights - for when i'm wearing the black shirt (halogen front, 5 led rear) £6-ish. My bike looks well set up with my cateye led alongside the giant halogen up front!
1 thermos drink bottle (yep, I'm sure I'll be having lattes as I stop at the lights from now on)

and, to protect myself from contributory negligence....

i bought my first helmet! At under £9 I'm not convinced about it's quality, but I'll have no judges criticising me in the event of an accident (as long as nobody tells him it was hanging off my handlebars til i took a fall and stuck it on my head!).

The wife went down after I got home and put my haul to shame, again - all her stuff looks good value.

From one of their earlier sales I bought their tool kit and the shoes both have been good and last time round I bought their track pump for emergencies (left in the office); I've never needed to use it but my colleague has been impressed.

I popped in late last night and they wouldnt put the stuff out until Thursday because that was the advertised date!

Oh well, I called in this morning and bought Shoes, Shorts, Tops, socks and ceiling cycle hoist. All look good quality for the money.

I am going for a wander at lunch, am intrested in the Pannier Bag as mine is getting to the end of its life (it was a cheap Argo's one which has done me a couple of years). Anyone got one of them and any comments over it?

I took a look last night.

I left the pannier bag, as it seemed incredibly heavy - looked well made though, and very waterproof.

Cheers

Anyone got one of the mini-pumps before? How has it been?

I bought one last year. (the cheaper one, not the dual action one). I've only had to use it once, but it worked well. Got me up to 70 PSI no problem, if a bit slowly. I reckon it would have achieved higher pressure but I got fed up and rode home to use the track pump there.

I was in at 8 and got two cheap shirts and helmet for my stepson

There is less in quantity than last time. A smaller range, and less of each item.

There are two types of pumps and they look excellent but I didn't need another. The little saddle bags are a good deal but I didn't need another.

The shoes are heavy but fine for commuting and look a bit more like off bike shoes if you do have to wear them off the bike

I have the panniers from a couple of years back - these are excellent and very very tough. The hooks look a bit iffy, but you could cobble some other ones on if they fail. I have not used mine very much and they are still in one piece. In my store they only had about 5 pairs of panniers. They had a matching handlebar bag. Beware if you do get panniers that they are sold in left and right models. Overall they are very similar to my Ortliebs but massively cheaper. If you want tough cheap stuff for commuting these are ideal.

I really thought I might 'break my Lidls duck' this time and actually buy something in there , but no.

I looked seriously at the shorts but they were labelled M L etc and gave no indication of actual waist size. Does anybody know what their sizes mean ?

I am usually a Medium in most items so I bought Medium. If they dont fit I will return them. If you are feeling brave strip in the store and try the items on!

No idea - but I bought a pair of M trouser last year. I ended up opening them in store and holding them against my waist to have a quicke guage of waist size and leg length - seemed to work.

Hoping there are a few pairs of mitts left by the time I get home tonight, as I didn't make it along before work this morning.

(Wasn't cycling as I sheared the seatpost clamp bolt on Monday night by overtightening it when i wasn't paying attention to what I was doing.... ;) Hopefully have a new clamp behind the door when I get home today.)
