...I don't need them I'm wearing white.

Response from a female cyclist, in Bradford around 1600 today, when I asked why she was cycling with no lights. Left her talking into a mobile phone, she'd left hers at work & was asking someone to move it of her desk.

Any other reasons for lights not being required for cycling in the dark?

I did say to a lad who seemed to have lights which weren't working politely that light was off. I got told to "jog on."

As I was blatantly on a bike I took him for an idiot and rode away.

They make you laugh.... :stop:

Had two good 'lights' moments tonight....

Keeping pace with traffic, notice a couple of old ladies start crossing from the opposite side, car next to me slows, and so do I.... As the lady is about to walk in front of my she stops dead....clearly a bit confused, then realised I've stopped too, and carries on. Mumbles to her friend.... "Oh I couldn't tell if that bike was a car or not !"

Next one waiting to turn right into my estate....

Chap walking his dogs calls over "what lights are they...wow.... ? I've got a cateye, but it's nothing like them, saw you right down the road...."

Opposite end of the spectrum eh....:stop:

Out for a few beers in town last night and the number of idiots without lights was crazy....:stop:

Classic33, I've seen quite a few without any lights at all everyday in Bradford and a point of note that some may not realise is even though the main roads and streets are well lit, it's even worse spotting them with so much "traffic glare" around, especially when you notice cars with faulty headlight beam-aim's pointing up and dazzle everyone.

Had a few peedestrians comment that my lights were still on, even though Im riding at the time ;) Also, foggy night the other night and several young lads commented my lights were bright . I suppose its nice knowing others definatly can notice me and pay attention.

We have a guy at work in his late 30's or early 40's has a torch strapped to his bars with what looks like a full roll of gaffa tape, only turns it on when he gets to main junctions/round-abouts:ohmy:
Every time I say something he just laughs it off.
What can you do?

Getting knocked off for him might not be a big issue.... depends upon us nutters who do this for commuting and fun/sport/fitness....... notice I don't mention saving money.............

I had one the other day. Ninja with no lights. Weaving all over the place. Texting on his phone.........

I slowed and asked politely why he had no lights. He said "Because I'm a student. I'm poor". "This phone only cost a tenner". I didnt know what else to say.

But he did conclude with "Fair point though mate" as we parted.

Video available apon popular demand :?:

The dyno lamps on my BSA 20 are ON permanently.

One sunny summer's day ( in September ) a pedestrian shouted "Your lights are on", to which I replied "They're doing their job then, you saw me"..

My message to cyclists without lights in the dark..

"Will you put lights on your wheelchair?"
