So if Liverpool is so honest how come Britain's biggest man made ship canal was built by Manchester's industrialists to avoid the thieving at Liverpool docks?

Ok, so it's a different city but close, however when I lived in those parts Salford was the real car-crime capital of Britain. It's unlikely anyone actually owned anything in Salford - it would have been an impossible feat.

My brother was a student in Liverpool. He used to take his doorstep in at night to prevent it being nicked.

They probably put the bike out in Liverpool in the morning when all the T leaves were signing on down the dole office ;)

If Liverpool is the most honest city?

Then that would explain the spineless bastard that shot Rhys Jones denying all involvement, getting his mates to give him false alibis and hiding the murder weapon, and to top it off his mother lied to police about the bike he was riding at the time of the shooting. Also, the local community the murderer lived in would not come forward to give information!

Honest my arse!

Exactly, its a piece of sh*t !

On the way to see someone pretty dam important and Ive got to ride thru this area...(where the lad was shot)

Its not good.

Not only do people (mostly young lads) snarl at you (to the point of seeing you off there and then) but then you've also got to rat-run...and get the great feeling of insecurity for ones well being - thats the honest truth of life in Liverpool.

The stupid thing is no-one wants to back the police up publically unless its a public figure ie a Councillor etc...even then they think twice!

Yes, because he's representative, isn't he? There's vermin everywhere, even in the rural idyll you reside so don't let's tar everyone with the same brush.

So they didn't build it to spped up transport times: ie direct access from Manchester to the Irish sea?

They built the ship canal to avoid port taxes set by the Liverpool Authorities.

I'd just like to add that my experience of living in Liverpool over 24 years is a little different from yenrob's.

Liverpool has a good share of scallies, but in my experience its not much diffrent from any of the major cities. Yes there are areas of low deprivation that are poorly connected to anywhere and these places are unwelcoming and territorial.

But Liverpool also has some great people. During the Reese Jones court case last year I went to two prize nights at our lad's school and it was heart warming to see over 200 kids turn up to get prizes for everything from sport to music, volutary work to academic achivement. When the nation is beating itselves up over the failure to control some of our kids, it was gratifying to see these kids enthused and proud of their acheivements. It was a good reminder that not all of Liverpool is as the media and others would have you beleive.
