I’ve read on here and other sites that petroleum jelly (aka Vaseline) is a good general purpose grease. Never tried it myself.
I have tried it but not on a bike😜😂

It has good lubrication properties in other areas too![]()
"Living through different times"
or, in other terms, getting old innit?
Stuff changes, that much is obvious and (equally obviously) to be expected. A change still can be a surprise to me of course but even that surprise is to be expected. What does flummox me though is how people see these things, i.e. the current landscape, as normality - but then of course if you didn't experience a time before 11 different types of bike grease (or whatever) then it IS your normality.
I cannot (and I mean cannot) see the world as a younger person sees it. I'm locked out of that. Tech (and social media etc) is an obvious example but the landscape is littered (literally a sad truth and another example) with signs of different times. And I was thinking that of disc brakes (on bicycles) and di2 shifters. I guess it's cool, I dunno.
di2 shifters
The closest thing to 'a book that changed my life'. Haven't used it for years, but it still sits in a prized place on my bookshelf, oily fingerprint smudges on the pages and all.In simpler times I learned everything I needed to know from this fabulous book.

While I am not averse to advancement in technology and myself own bike with Di2 as well as bikes with mechanical group set and I know soon we will have wireless brakes too.
Where did you hear that one?

Marine grease - that's all you need. Great stuff.
