Rather like when I was in a Poundland type shop a while back.
In the 'domestic' section, there were spray cleaners for bath, chrome, stainless steel, toilets, kitchens, floors, walls, hard surfaces, glass, showers, etc., etc..
And at the end was an all purpose cleaner - !

😂

When Shimano start talking about it, I'll believe it.

I doubt they ever will, trying to persuade anyone to buy a bike with brakes that can fail in an instant because of an electrical gremlin would be a big ask. As someone who has always embraced new technology that's one I wouldn't go near.
Whenever a new concept is rolled out there are apprehensions whether it would become a reality one day! Remember when they talked about driverless cars majority were not bought into it but now it is widely accepted at least in some states in US and even in China Japan etc. So in my humble opinion it’s just a matter of time when bikes will come equipped with wireless brakes. Since we have now fully wireless group sets by SRAM and Campagnolo anyway so wireless brakes will do the trick as no internal wires to fiddle with!

In simpler times I learned everything I needed to know from this fabulous book. I leave everything to my LBS these days.

For me, it's these 2 books (and internet searches):

This isn't really a new concept, just some Heath Robinson box of tricks cobbled together by some bloke in his shed. Of course you can make electricly controlled brakes operated wirelessly, the technology is simple. The question is who would want them, and why?

It wasn't that long ago that the big debate was disc or rim. Whichever is your favourite at least they are both great ways of stopping you.

Add wireless brakes to the conversation and I don't know about you but i'd be very very nervous throughout the whole ride.

The comparison to driverless cars is a good one. I don't think our human nerves are ready for this type of technology yet.

I don’t think it’s ‘nerves’, but ‘common sense’. I’ve never had a brake cable snap, but I have had electrical’s fail.

Yeah, at least if a brake cable snaps you have the other brake. You'd have to be seriously unlucky to have both snap! And at least an electrical fault on your gears still leaves you able to ride in the gear you're stuck in.

A wireless brake failure is something I don't want to think about.

Maybe they might get separate control mechanisms for front and rear so that way you still would have one to rely upon unless you’re seriously unlucky🤔 I am personally not in favour of this wireless technology as such but one great advantage is that there are no internal cables to fiddle with 😀

When I was a kid - oil was something that came in a can marked 3-in-one
Grease was something that came out of a large tub my Dad had bought many many years before
unless the oil was "special" in which case you used the oil Dad had for the car

That was it

my bike seems to survive many years without anything complicated or specially for bikes

Same here when I was a lad. 3-in-one and a tub of Castrol LMP grease that was yellow in colour. I still have a can of 3-in-one and a tub of Castrol although the latter if the same is like a grey colour. I used to use this on bearings.

And the first time your wireless brakes don't work may be the last time you'll ever need them.
