OOH! a real pet hate of mine. A shop which doesnt have prices on anything!! went into my local shop just looking really but was interested in the lights they had. Not one had a price on. After asking for three prices of 3 products I gave upand left! I dont go into a clothes shop which doesnt have prices (mainly because those shops are too expensive for my primark budget) but I would have thought a bike shop would have had some prices

Yes, it's annoying. I don't like asking the prices of things. I like to browse at my leisure, and ask if I want help, but I want to see the prices easily.

If you have to ask the price then you can't afford it

Don't get bike lights from your bike shop - really - they are way over priced anyway. My LBS where I got my bike from (custom built though) was scary on light prices, and only did one main manufacturer - reason will be they can't afford the stock and probably get sale or return...............

Look at the reviews on here and buy on-line.

Support the shop with servicing if you can't do it yourself.

Eh? I doubt that very much. On both counts.

The reason that lights (along with everything else) is more expensive in a bricks and mortar shop than in an internet shop is

1. overheads are higher
2. overall turnover is lower
3. they are buying in lower quantities
4. all of the above

If we don't support our local bicycle shops they will disappear.

Very true, and if the LBS doesn't want to go out of business it'll become more competitive, or look to add value in other ways that you can't get off the web......

As easy as that? Haha.

I think the principle is, if you ask it shows your interested and it might be easier for them to sell the product to you. If you have a budget of £80, but it costs £100 but does X Y Z you might be prepared to spend that bit more...or if the light you choose is only £50 they might be able to say, look, for £30 more you could get this. Otherwise, you just browse over them all and maybe don't pick any.

I do agree with you. For western shops prices are important. A lack of prices seems to be suited more to countries where haggling (for everything) is order of the day. I generally wouldn't ask and would just buy elsewhere. If I was in an Asian country I would only ask if I was planning on buying it, where as if it had a price I might just buy it on the fly (If I have to spend 30 min haggling and I'm not that bothered I won't ask for price)
