the answer is get a good rapport going with shop and they will let you bring bike in . or in case of local offy the owner stands outside keeping an eye on it while i go in and buy filthy beer .

Surely the joy of a bike is you can lock it to almost anything? My work provides sod all parking, but there is a lovely rooftop courtyard garden with a metre wide run behind the fence, which makes a beautiful secluded bike park just for me (well, two, I told a colleague about it too).
