I gave up going to trade shows a while ago. I used to enjoy the small, mad professor type stands, but these seem to have disappeared from the big shows.

I'm hoping that http://www.bespoked.cc/ will be a bit different.

I went to Birmingham armed with credit card and an "agreed budget" from my lovely wife, only thing I could buy was either cr*p that I didn't want or extortionately priced food & drink so no, I probably won't go again.

Last year Madison had lots of own brand and pearl Izumi clothes cheap. Ex display stuff.

Highlight for me was a Martin Ashton demo.... Won't be the same this year

Was there on Thursday - disappointing .. most of the mainstream brands were absent, lots of peripheral stuff where you have to wonder what the people expected to get from their investment in exhibiting. If I hadn't had a free ticket and stonking rail deal I'd have been even more disappointed.

Two things from the day:

Dynamic Bikes stand .. a whole range of shaft-drive (no chain) machines ... not just sit-up-and-beg but some sportier stuff and a folder. Very interesting.

Not bike related - a stall outside Marylebone Station selling bunches of red roses (pre Valentines Day) for SEVENTY QUID !!

Sorry you had a disappointing day, @robgul. Certainly not my experience!

Those who were disappointed... why? Did you expect something in particular that wasn't there? There are a growing number of bicycle shows - I expect they'll each develop into something quite particular and distinct from each other. Curious to know what people think the London Bike Show should be/offer?

Must say, I too was disappointed. Can't really put my finger on the reason. Maybe I expected too much. I really enjoyed last years, Madison stand, muc-off stand. Neither there this year. Planet X only had bikes, no other kit.
I did try the free refills from High 5/SIS. Then kept going to the loo! British Cycling stand seemed smaller. Did enjoy finding out about blind spots of lorrys from cross rail / police.
The travel and adventure section did seem to be a little more dynamic.

I was disappointed. It was not as good as previous years' events. With the exception of electric bikes, it was the same old same old. There were few touring bikes. Not many folders. There were quite a few expensive, carbon road bikes which I could not do justice to, even if I was prepared to spend the money. I liked the Velorution stand, one bike from the Ribble stand, and I was interested in a sort of bike which was powered by striding. Powering it was like running without the impact. The show was not as big as previous years, although it was tacked onto an outdoor adventures exhibition. Not worth the £18 and the train fare and the time spent getting there.

If you factor in the cost of travelling to one of these shows added to the entry price and you don't live in the smoke or close then I think you need a very good reason for going. We have been 3 times over the years, on 2 of those occasions we bought a bike and for one of them we saved a lot of money. Cyclists tend to be a canny lot always looking for a bargain, but if there is not much to buy in the first place, and no competition if there is, then for me just not worth it.
Still, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Elliptigo? I had a word to the guy on the stall, because I'd seen him on London-Edinburgh-London. He finished it on that damn thing, while I only got 80% of the way round on a road bike. Impressive bikes.

So why did no one cycle there? We took advantage of the secure parking, but it wasn't that busy at all.

Sadly cycling there did not end that well for us
