did happen to me one time when my rear tyre exploded not brought spare tyre. . anyway rode my bike at 8-10 miles/hour. luckily my rims were ok.

Got back about 6.30. Team car was called for !
Team car currently has the roof rack with 4 bike carriers on. What I forgot was the fact the down tube 'supports' were all in the locked position, so couldn't pop the bike on the roof. BUGGER.
So, wheels off, rack off, front and back guards off and all in the boot.
Just dug out some old Mavic Open 4 CD's (same as Open Pro but older), and have stripped and swapped over the rims. Just sorting the tension before I put on the bike for truing. Easier than I thought, but time consuming - Done 2 hours on them so far.
Old rim is split 1/4 of the way round

Wheel build going well. Stopped tensioning up for tonight. Wheel nice and round, and a bit of lateral wobble (5mm) so I'll sort that when I can check the tension with the front tomorrow. Fortunately it's fixed so no offset to mess with.
Spokes a little short, but all thread has gone in nipple. This is my first re-build ever, so wasn't going to mess with a new CXP33's. The Open 4's I've had for 20 years, but were on my best bike, so never saw really bad weather or the damage of commuting - only just wearing off the anodising from the brake surface.
Good little learning curve for me, and one way of using up old good stock !
Got away with a slight scratch on inside of chain stay from what was left of the old rim - will polish out. I'll post photos of the rim tomorrow.

Nowt' more satisfying than building your own wheels. I started dabbling in my teens using cheap steel rims, used spokes and old hubs to try and cobble useable bits together.

Never really wore rims out as fast as I do now, get about 14 months out of a rear and just over 24 months from a front - and that's on a fixed (ps you can tell I'm a roadie - back brake is still used)
I am pretty handy at truing wheels and get them within 1mm, and have even made a few mates really knackered wheels ridable for a few months - saved them some cash for a bit.
This is new for me.
