Just wondering what peoples opinions of him were/are? He's banned someone from singing Perfect Day on America's Got Pop Idol, apparently.

I don't know much about him at all but it seems a bit mean.

Can he do that? Whether he should or not, if they'd gone ahead with the performance, would he have been able to sue?

It's his song, he can do what he wants. I think he is right on taste grounds if nothing else.

He is now reported as saying he did not stop Susan Boyle fron singing the song but that the song was not cleared for the American market, what ever that means!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like him and his aforementioned sullenness gives me a smile.

He's a story teller of excellence. Not a sage but an astute observer and commentator.

I like Lou Reed - 'Transformer' and 'Lou Reed Live' were two of the first 'serious' LPs I bought.
If I'd written 'Perfect Day' apart from not having to work again I wouldn't want it to be associated with junk telly.

After the mauling Simon Cowell's lot gave "Hallelujah" I don't blame him for saying no.

Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground are everything that the X Factory aka Simon Cowell are not. Good on him for protecting his own material and stopping his songs from being massacred by talentless no hopers trying to make a few quid out of some one else's previous hard work and talent.

Best not to forget though that Reed is also responsible for what many people consider to be the worst record in existence - Metal Machine Music, it's a stinker!

Reed's entire solo output is pretty patchy I reckon. Ronson. "Mistrial" is, by quite a considerable margin, the worst album I've ever purchased.

Even so, I'm not sure he really deserves the dog's dinner that SuBo would inevitably have served up.
