It is all very well saying park wherever you like and to blazes with anyone else. That attitude exemplifies the modern attitude of care for nobody but yourself. I live in a society fortunately where people do help each other and do not set out to cause offence.

I honestly believe I parked considerately, I wasn’t near his or another drive and I wasn’t opposite one.

When the guy confronted me he went straight into full on aggressive mode to the point where I put my hands up and said please don’t get any closer.

A friend has said I can park on their driveway now, but it’s closer to the town center so kinda negates the point of not adding to congestion and pollution.

It didn’t help going to work today and them laughing about the whole incident saying that’s what I deserve for cycling, then the whole pay tax argument reared it’s head, so I snapped and said I pay more council tax then all of you so my right to use the road is more if I use the same bs logic my office colleagues apply.

Sounds like the op wasn't inconsiderately parked, but I do sympathise with the residents a bit. Our road is often used by those who don't want to pay £1.50 for parking, and whilst they might be legally parked, if there are two large cars or vans either side of my drive they might not be actually 'blocking' it but it is very difficult to enter it and near impossible to exit safely. It's not so bad at the moment, but day after day it grinds you down.

My drive is the entrance to the left of the photo. People see an empty drive and assume you are going to be out all day. This guy was also blocking wheelchair access for carers who take disabled adults out for a walk from the unit round the corner.

That’s way too close, and I do have sympathy for people on packed roads like that, a friend of mine can never park near his home as it’s near a town center and it’s not resident parking zone, I would never use a road like that.

The reason I choose that road is it’s not busy, it’s also not close enough to the town center for people to park and walk into the shops, I know people who live there so I knew it has about 4 cars parked sensibly.

It’s just sad the people don’t see cycling as a solution to congestion, I would happily use a park and cycle type arrangement even if there was a fee to pay, and it was away from the town center.

I’m so envious of the cycle infrastructure in the Netherlands and the way they embrace cycling.

My neighbour is going to talk to me as he knows an old unused rural train station where you can park and use an off road track to get into the town.

I have no sympathy. First thing that went through my mind was, "right, no where do I stash my car of a night?" every time I've looked at somewhere new to live - it's just a shame that no one else bothers to think that one through. If I had no where to stick a car off the car then I wouldnt have one.

And don't get me started on folk that do have garages but who fill them with tat and then dump their car in the street. More and more I become worried that I'm going to get carted away and locked in an asylum because I'm the weird old geezer that actually puts his car in the garage.

No one forces me to own a car, and I wouldn't dream of inflicting it on society by storing it in the road when I'm not driving it. Roads are not car parks, so I've little (in fact no) sympathy for those that complain they can't park close to home. They're not victims - they're part of the problem.

We have off road parking for 3 cars - which is only useful if you can actual get onto your drive. Similarly, my large modern car won't fit into my 30 plus year old garage. Well it will actually, I just wouldn't be able to open the doors once I was in.

@Drago haha your garage comment made me lol

My old house was mid terrace but we had an off-road parking spot and garage, the numptys on the corner always got mad as they parked in front of my garage, then had me banging on the door early in the morning telling them to move their car, his comment was always who parks a car in a garage! haha

It actually escalated when they got sick of me banging on the door early in the morning to blocking another garage which belonged to a mate, they did that once as he dragged their car away from his garage with his 4x4

^^^ nice but you'd not have a chance in my 1930's garage, that also had a corner pinched from it to accommodate a downstairs WC by a previous owner. It suffices for 6 push bikes, a motorbike and lots of tools though

We have a 6 year old Polo and an old 3 series. The newer Polos are as big as the original Golf. Only the i10 that the Polo replaced when it got written off would have fitted in the garage and allowed you to get out of the doors. Of course, it's a moot point as my 25 year old Saab restoration project is blocking the entrance anyway lol.
