Well, I'll be out again tomorrow. The point about drivers seeing bikes and assuming they're slow is a good one; I'm sure many people don't realise how fast you can travel on a bike. I was, though, well within the speed limit of 30, nearer 20! Actually, I am a pensioner myself (66)! The day I know that my eyesight is deteriorating will be the day I stop driving and I would be happy to take any test of my eyes on an annual basis, if required. Pleasing that my reactions were sharp enough, though.

I rarely have scary moments with pensioner drivers,it's usually with those a lot younger. Pensioners tend to keep to the speed limit and indicate. Ok some are bad drivers but i put that down to them being bad drivers all their lives, not just because they've reached 70.

I had dealings with a 75 year old lady who said she needed her car because of her difficulty walking up hills where she lives.
Unfortunately, as I spoke to her I realised she had awful eyesight, (no glasses with her) and had difficulty remembering conversation we'd just had 2 minutes prior.
Old age can be extremely tough for some folk but what chance do we have cycling on the roads when there are folk like that driving on them.

I was out cycling yesterday evening on a busy road where many motorists overtake cyclists foolishly, when i got that car behind me waiting patiently feeling! The car eventually passed and as i always do if possible i put my hand up to acknowledge his/her patience. The old bloke waved back then indicated as he passed me. About three miles later a lad who must've had a licence for about six months saw me but decided to pull out, while he was on his bloody phone! The latter might have better eye sight and better anticipation, but if they choose to disregard your presence then age doesn't come into it!
