in the last week or so?
ie window popping up asking for verification of password......frequently!!!
I have and I don't know whether it's my machine or isp (o2).
Your answers will help me eliminate one or the other.

The repeated asking for password usually means it can't connect to the server but instead of telling you that, asks for the password. You did retype it properly right?

No, I don't use Mail.app

That's possibly why I've not had problems either

I use Gmail and keep it web-based, my work Mac Mail is fine but that's on 10.4.11.

Users have reported this at work, it seems to be linked to unstable connections dropping packets & Mail.app assuming it was a mangled auth' error.

What do you use? I've been using Thunderbird for a while now and I prefer it.

Thunderbird. Would really like to switch to mutt, but haven't found the time to learn it yet. 'Twas ever thus.

Mine does this if I start mail before it's found the wireless network, or sometimes if there's some other network issue.
