Man Ute sacked David Moyes

Man Utd overachieved last year, call it the Fergie factor. Lack of desire has highlighted the lack of quality in that team this year. How many of Utd's players would make the starting 11 of this years title contenders? Moyes has to take the blame but not all it. Unfortunately for him most of the "young stars" at the club aren't and "seasoned" pros was a season too far.
Fergie knew size of the job this year and baled!!!

Yes yes yes, this is all very well, but the crucial news is that Sheffield Wednesday didn't wait until the last game of the season to avoid relegation.

I'm sympathetic towards Moyes. You can't build a world beating team in 10 months. The team he inherited was relatively poor, and United have made themselves a mockery with this short sighted decision.

Not so sure about that analysis. MUFC won the league quite comfortably last year. Since then, only LFC have really upped their game. But MUFC are 7th with what will be their worst points total since the advent of the Premiership. For sure, the senior players past their best are another year older but Moyes was in control of the transfers over the summer so he could have influenced this somewhat.

FWIW my analysis is that MUFC are a worse side than last year, but not that much worse. I think we underestimate the positive motivational impact of playing for Ferguson, and thus the negative impact of playing for Moyes

Moyes hasn't been treated badly though.

He will have been given clear objectives which he has obviously failed to meet and so has been sacked for poor performance. And made an even wealthier man in the process.

So another failure walks away with the sack sufficiently full of £ to make him a multi-millionaire.
He should become a banker.

Hold your horses on that one! Just been reading in today's 'i' that Moyes may not get a pay-out at all. If he does, it won't be anywhere near the figures being speculated. According to them, the club decided back in December to get rid of him but as there was a performance-related clause in his contract, they didn't act immediately but waited until now so they can show just cause in booting him out with no big payment.

You could be right. Most places seem to be reporting a years salary as a pay-off, so £5 million. A fairly tidy sum!

Louis Van Gaal is being tipped as a replacement. Not sure about that one. He's certainly more in the mould of Ferguson but he's not delivered instant success at clubs.

Whoever they appoint, there should be a proper interview process, rather than relying on one man to name his successor.

So has he walked away with the wongers of his remaining balance of 6 year contract.
No, at most he has walked away with 20% of it - and if I was taking on a job from which I knew I would eventually be sacked, I would want some compensation when the sack came.
In fact there is good statistical evidence that very few managers make any difference at all to a club's success. There is a very strong correlation between the total wage bill and league position, which is hardly a surprise.

Liverpool?

I know nothing about football. But, I do remember reading that England's success in tournaments is tied pretty much to the relative value of the players in the teams and has been so for several decades.
