Still part of the team !
I am tempted with this, even though I have done very little cycling in the last year. At least I know the roads and have plenty of bail out points.

Just be aware that bailing out can mean a long walk or a long wait at a station or an expensive taxi ride. If you or your bike break at eg, Pickup Bank at 02.00, that's a problem.
Also, we're looking at around 75 miles some of which is very hilly. If you've not been out much recently, are you sure you're up to this ?
I'm not trying to put you off but I would ask that you have a careful consideration of your current abilities.

+1. Long distance night riding, anywhere, is a whole different kettle of fish to doing it in daylight or even in the hours before midnight. There's a time and a place to find out you're not up to a challenge, and that isn't it (even in the smoke). I wouldn't want to put you (or anyone else) off either, but mental and physical preparation are key to this. Oh, and time to charge lots of batteries. I heard about FNRttCs a year or so before I actually did one, and only signed up when I felt ready. Not saying you'd need that long, I probably didn't, but…

I have done some FNRttC rides and this one in particular a few times. Also done plenty of Audax rides through the night, that side of things is the least of my problems! I could probably do the route to Blackburn in my sleep, it is part of my commute!
I will have a think on it and see how I get on this week with a few rides. Living locally, if I am not up to the ride, or I have mechanical issue, I can make a call and get a lift home.

Well, last weekend's ride checking the first part of my planned route to Manchester revealed an upcoming road closure where I'd have to tackle some rather unpleasant fast dual carriageways. And Runcorn. So that plan's scuppered.

On the other hand, tickets from Liverpool to Manchester can be had for £3. And, after an odyssey more protracted than it should have been (every, and I mean every, booking website is infested with tracking scripts and other internet nasties - and no, I'm not putting in a credit card number without first dealing with that unnecessary nonsense) I'm now in possession of said ticket. So I'm in. Yay!

Afraid to report my attendance is now rated at no more than 50-50. Monday lunchtime started feeling fragile. Lots of water and paracetamol an early night even an afternoon nap today while granddaughter had hers.
Heading up stairs now. ☹️🤢

Would be interested in you maybe starting a separate thread on this - am interested in how to avoid the things/minimise booking prices of things, and you seem to have a certain expertise.

@robjh

Spinningfields area- quite close to Victoria with outside seating areas where you could lean a bike (search for Crazy Pedro's on Google and lots of places to eat around there)

Corn Exchange - lots of places with outside seating. There's vapianos, pizza express, Gino da'campos. Within sight of Victoria station.

Northern Quarter - lots of Al fresco but can get a bit busier as night goes on.

Great Northern - (near Deansgate) all star lanes, home sweet home, almost famous. Might not be able to sit outside with bikes though if you're not bringing locks.
Corn Exchange is a good option as it's near Victoria Station. It also has indoor and outdoor seating options for most of the restaurants. We went to Mowgli Street Food there last weekend and it was good. Not rowdy at all. Northern Quarter is always lively, Friday night will be crazy so if you don't like that sort of thing I'd give it a miss

Latest and last major update (I hope):-

Start Victoria Station at midnight (earlier if everyone's there). Please arrive by 23.45 for the safety briefing. I'm planning to get there by 23.30. We'll meet inside, across from Java coffee bar.
The initial route out of Manchester is different to previous rides and there's a further difference where we go across Salford Wetlands.
We're using the 24hr Euro Garages BP station on Frontier Park services in Whitebirk, Blackburn for the mid-ride refreshment stop. It's just behind the McD's we've previously used. Getting there will involve some pavement cycling but that's safer and faster than going around the multi-lane roundabouts on the roads.
The garage has toilets and a well stocked shop: a coffee machine, sandwiches, pies(!), sweets, chocolate, fruit, soft drinks etc. There is no indoor seating unless they allow us to use one of the (closed) franchises. I'd like to keep our stay there to 45 minutes. I visited at 02.30 this morning (you're welcome) and everything was available.
After the stop, we'll follow the previous route until just after Inglewhite where we'll cross the M6 to head through Bilsborrow, St. Michael's on Wyre and Pilling.
From Pilling we'll ride towards Fluke Hall and onto the “sea wall” towards Knott End and the ferry to Fleetwood.
From Inglewhite the route is very flat but is difficult in a headwind. Ask me how I know......
The ferry costs £2.50 for rider and bike (cash only, no card payments, please have the correct change).
From Fleetwood, we'll ride down the Prom to Blackpool for breakfast in the Layton Rakes:- https://www.jdwetherspoon.com/pubs/...ource=google&utm_medium=maps&utm_campaign=gmb
I'm sorry* it's a Wetherspoons but trying to deal with local cafes was eroding what is left of my soul.
On the plus side, it has outdoor seating and is very close to Blackpool North station.
It would be useful if some of you could make a note of the Layton Rakes' location. Once we get to Fleetwood I may send a faster group ahead to claim tables and bike parking space.

Timings:-
I'm hoping to get to the garage at 03.00.
Knott End at 07.45 (for the 1st ferry).
Layton Rakes at 09.00.

Some general HS&E announcements:-
There are tram tracks at both ends of the ride. Please cross them at as near to 90 deg. as possible or get off and walk.
Be careful of sand going down the Prom. If in doubt, get off and walk.
Some of the descents are fast; please ride within the limitations of your lights and talents. I'll issue a specific speed warning at one point. Please heed it.
We'll be regrouping for catch-ups or further, specific** H&S announcements. Many of these will be near houses so please keep the noise to a minimum.

Any questions, please ask.

Most importantly (after safety), we'll be stopping in Bury to remember alans/jogler. I'll bring flowers.

Finally;
Please check your bike over paying particular attention to the tyres. The Friday's web site has useful information:- https://www.fnrttc.org.uk/all-about-the-bike

Any volunteers for TECs ? Competence with mechanicals an asset !
Also, volunteers for way marking (not that there's much need; it's a very linear route and most of the turns are at natural re-grouping points).

tl:dr ?
No; get a drink, sit down and start at the very beginning. I'm told it's a very good place to start. Please pay particular attention to HS&E and bike prep stuff.

*I really am sorry but see above.

I feel like Vincenzo Nibali. Going downhill fast. Sorry to miss this ride after venturing to foreign parts three times this summer for three Friday night rides down south.
Have a good one. Pics please of Sonia’s new bike.

We can forget going through the Wetlands unfortunately. The Environment Agency are still digging up the entrance that we'd use.
Only 3 weeks overdue.......

Is anyone gathering at Piccadilly station that could escort others to Victoria, please?
Just a little uneasy navigating a city I don't know too well, especially when tramlines are entered into the mix.

What time do you get into Piccadilly, Charlie? My train's scheduled to get in for 10-30 pm. It's been far too long since I lived in Manchester so i can't claim to be any sort of guide any more, but I can add some morale support if needed...

Hello @McWobble - Thank you - it'll be good to see you again.
Mine's due in at 2308 (I assume it'll be indicated as a train from London Euston, as I'm picking it up at MK).
I have a couple of routes, one provided further up this thread - it's only about 1.65k, and hopefully the streets won't be as mad as London streets are at that time on a Friday night.
Then again...

I've plotted a sensible route Piccadilly to Victoria for you, this is the way I would go late at night

Bike Route Planner - Ride with GPS

This is nearly all pedestrianised so it's safe but beware late night revellers so take it steady

As you come off Piccadilly station approaches, the road immediately in front is closed due to roadworks but you can get around this. Watch out for tram tracks around Piccadilly Gardens
