Marmite or Vegemite?

May I introduce a Bovril curveball? Obviously not the same beast, but the jars are pretty much the same shape.

OK - phase 2 of the taste test is complete, and the results are perhaps more controversial.

In this blind tasting, one piece of toast (hot, buttered, white bread) was spread with Marmite, and the second was spread with Asda’s own brand yeast extract.

And the conclusion of the jury was that they tasted the same.

Marmite is great. Vegemite is some kind of low calorie , lightweight, version.

Surprisingly, Tesco yeast spread is not unpleasant. Not as good as Marmite, but in the ballpark.

Thanks for that linky, I wouldn't have thought that Leather shorts and Australian weather would be a good combination. unless you're into that kind of thing.

Reputedly the 'Hoges' character was pretty close to Paul in reality, he once famously said about how he reacted to loudmouth fellas in pubs approaching him that he was that loudmouth himself not so long ago.

Marmite is a poor mans Vegemite. That concludes the debate.

Never seen Vegemite on sale in this country, but love Marmite. I use it in mushroom risotto, on toast and with raw celery and Mrs B uses it in other dishes.

Ah so the difference is that Marmite is made from good tasty british beer whilst 'vegemite' must be made from the leavings of bland Aussie gnat's piss Beer.
