Some time in the wee small hours somebody has gone past my house - which means they live round the corner from me - and tipped my large planter over in the front of the house. They also pulled the green bin out and tipped that out on to the path.
Why?!
What on earth possesses someone to do that?
The annoying thing is we did hear the bin go over, but I thought it was just somebody walking over the temporary metal drain covers the builders have put down.
Should I be worried that it's just ours that have been knocked down? Is this personal?!

They probably don't live there, were just drunk, or kids out to prove their status in the pack.

I doubt it's personal. Try not to let it worry you and just get yourself ready for that new job!

A friend of mine used to get this regularly as he lived on a walking route home from the pub. He had those big plant pot things and some arriss wipe would either move them or tip them up.

This was the early nineties. He decided he had enough, so he glued some stanley blades under the rim of one of the pots so the edges were just protruding. Sure enough, it wasn't long before he checked one morning to find blood all over the place outside, and a trail or blood going several hundred yards up the road to the door of a local ne'er do wells house.

My friend then levered off the blades and disposed of the evidence before Johnny Scumbag could gather his wits and come back and check, leaving the scene looking like the Herbert had cut his fingers on the rim.

His flower pots remained unmolested after that. Personally, I wouldn't recommend the method to you, but I recount the tale in the hope it might cheer you up

We are a dead end estate, there's no through road. If you come passed my house you are going to yours -or a friends - you're not just passing. This is why it's more annoying.
It's a brand new estate, the houses aren't cheap and , I know this makes me sound snobbish, I thought we'd have nicer people living here who kept their kids, and themselves, in check. It's really disappointing.

Why does that mean that they live near you? Even if it was a neighbour, I doubt it's personal. Someone was either drunk, or you have a mindless thug for a neighbour.

My mam was burgled on Friday night, she's been asking same questions. Sadly there was a warning. Two weeks ago someone attempted to break in through the patio doors. I had to convince her to call police about that. A police officer visited during the week, gave advice on security target hardening etc. Friday night they came back. Thankfully she wasn't home, although, that's probably the reason why they targeted her her car was off the drive, she lives on her own, she's very active.
I don't wish to worry you these are mindless people. Report it police might tell you it's Happened to several houses on the way back from a local pub. If not you've been singled out.

As you pass my house you go down a short road - 5 houses long - which leads to two cul de sacs, one left, one right. Then a field. And nothing else. You don't walk past on your way to anywhere other than home at 1 am. I walked the dog early on and no sign of any mischief anywhere else.
Given what happened to our car - it was very badly scratched - last year I'm somewhat suspicious of the neighbours as it is.
Sorry to hear about your mum @damj , my daughter was broken into last week - on her birthday no less! Silly girl had left her bedroom window open though.

Dead end estate....Even better dare for kids.

Don't get hung up on the "who".

Edit. If you are Genuinley worried that it's a neighbour...and I really don't and wince at offering this last bit of advice...but...motion activated web cams are super cheap to buy and easy to install at a window.

Cameras were a consideration after the car was damaged, but it's not something I'm keen on. Just feeds the paranoia really.
I know because I heard them that they went past, and didn't come back.
There are a couple of young couples who get load and drunk most weekends, it was probably them. I'll continue to glare at them as we pass. That should do it. :okay:

Drunk neighbours then. If you haven't done anything to any of your neighbours, which I'm sure you haven't, then they won't have anything against you. Unless they're very unreasonable people.
