The only thing that is certain is no one can find it, totally bizarre , nightmare situation if you are a relative of one of those on board and are waiting on news

The authorities mentioned that it made a u turn, has any countries been checking to see if it made it back to dry land before crashing.

I've been conducting my own search using Google Earth and Google Maps (belt & braces) and have found nothing either.

edit... I'll check the land after I've finished the sea search.

It might give relatives a glimmer of hope if there is a chance the plane was hijacked, rather than it crashing somewhere.

Am about to fly a very long way on a very big plane .... It's no fun reading this stuff ....

I've had two "adrenalin is brown" avaiation moments,one in the air & one on approach so there is NO-WAY,NOT EVER am I going to fly again 'cause I reckon I'd be pushing my luck to try for a hat trick.
