It's picked up an extra couple of engines on its journey from KL then. (But lost one, too). :thumbsup:

Since everyone has at least one phone and an iPad or tablet or laptop how can it be that a plane with possibly 600 of these devices on with their owners glued to them have we heard absolutely nothing? At least one person including the crew would have made a call, tweeted, etc.

And this disappearance shows that the aviation industry has some pretty big holes in it's tracking and emergency systems. What's to stop the same thing happening again tomorrow, next week, next month? Air France plane loss and now this almost 700 people perished. It seems like life is cheap in the aviation industry. Getting similar to how traffic reports are made, the acceptable silent death toll of everyday travelling. The M6 has a traffic jam at junction 10, etc. Well actually 2 people are dead so please be patient as the emergency services try to attend to them and the injured and the police get the road open. If the plane had been RyanAir Michael O'Leary would know exactly where it is. I can't believe the tracking system on an apparently modern passenger plane is so inadequate. If some one buys a tracker for their car unless it ends up in a lead container or garage, then it can be tracked. Why not with planes with 300 people on? I don't understand why the technology in this instance appears so inadequate. Is it cost, feasibility, technology is not as advanced as I think, what?

what a load of bollox... sorry, but it's just rambling inane BS... not a surprise that Classic has 'liked' it though... he thinks Kubrick faked the moon landings.

Very limited range on cell phones to make calls. However if one, and probably more, were actually turned on they would be trying to connect to a cell,in which case the phone will turn the signal up as high as possible (the clever phones will vary it depending on connection quality to save battery life). I'd be surprised if a spy plane isn't capable of picking up the (very weak) signals and triangulating on them.
If we can still receive signals from the Voyager probe, finding a bundle of cell phones shouldn't be beyond human resources.

Er no, it was the RyanAir part. But mainly due to the way in such losses are now reported.
As for Kubrick, that was a case of did the technology exist at the time. I simply pointed out that it had been done, before the famous speech was made about sending a man to the moon. With NASA, regular visitors to the UK film set, advising the film makers of what they could expect. This done with information from the BIS, who had at least one of their members at mission control and at a time when the final design of lander had yet to be agreed upon!

The reason the plane has not been found is a simple one. They are looking in the wrong place. How obvious I hear you type.. but wait.. They are all looking downwards to the surface of Planet Earth.

After all their efforts, using the expertise and technology derived from a century of flight, their thinking has failed, literally, to lead beyond the confines of the box. No consideration has been given to the possibility that the plane rather than obeying gravity's laws, went straight upwards, propelled by some previously unencountered force, almost certainly the effects of climate change. A celestial sink-hole in fact. The plane may well be in orbit around some other planet in the solar system or perhaps beyond.
