The Courts will often prevent people being named in child abuse cases if the adult is related to the child. This is to protect the child's identity, not the adult. Sadly most of these cases are committed by someone who is related to the child or who knows the family. But you're right - everyone has a right to the presumption of innocence.

Anytime you leave your kids unsupervised in a public place you are taking a risk. Most parents will assess that risk and decide whether it's low enough to be acceptable to whatever personal measure they have on the subject.

Also, it's pointless trying to compare crime numbers on an overall basis. Try comparing them on a per head basis and you'llhave something more valid.

I'm pretty sure that the OP was not blaming the parents for the crime rather suggesting that their actions were a contributing factor to the situation.

This is something I've never understood. How can the press be allowed to name people? They name people who haven't even been charged time after time. Now assuming everyone is innocent until proven guilty do they realise the the damage they could do to people's lives??
This bloke may be guilty but surely until he's charged he shouldn't be named?

The media have reported that a particular person has been arrested and is being questioned by police. They cannot be prevented from doing that because they are reporting a fact and not merely speculating on someone's character. Societies where they are not allowed to report the names of people taken into custody tend to be the ones where awkward people disappear.

it depends on how old your kids are.
whist I agree that 7pm is late for a 5 year old, it is not late for a 10 year old.
If you don't let your kids out to play you get cotton wool kids.
I spend a lot of life dealing with 15 year old cotton wool kids, who were not allowed out to play 5-10 years earlier and therefore have a number of issues ranging from obesity to behavourial problems

No I'm sure sky named him after he was took in for questioning . In fact I'm sure they were asked in press conference to confirm his name and refused to confirm it .

I don't think so, because at point of charge they have to release the person on bail to appear at court, or they are remanded in custody pending court.

This afternoon I heard the girls poor mother making a very emotional, desperate appeal to anyone who might know where she is. It made for very difficult listening.

As for the man in custody; I can really see only one reason for the police releasing a name and that's when it might help further their investigations. In this case it might.
In cases like this local people would probably know who has been arrested anyway and if the press get the name from them then that's just how it goes.

no thats not what i meant sorry if thats how you and others read it .

and as for cotton wool kids yes totally agree but this day and age does make parenting very hard to know whats best for our children
