I had a walk round to see how far they’ve got
Not very, but, there’ll be a lot of planning/searching out old plans for it
One of the chaps there, told me that plans are to also include the cast-iron/grade 1 listed Aquaduct that carries the Aire & Calder Navigation Canal over the River Calder

To get the bearings for the initial baseboard, here's a map; https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16.8&lat=53.70247&lon=-1.46328&layers=168&b=1&o=100

I did a search on old maps and I can get an idea of how that is orientated. Those line would run in from the West from Lofthouse Colliery and they straddle the basin either side.

I used the OS 1:1 million to 1:2,500, 1900s map

I've inherited from my FIL a Hornby Flying Scotsman railway set, he originally got the basic set from my SIL for his birthday. Overtime he put the paper colour base mat down on a board and added to it. Then he became ill, gave all the stuff to me before he carked it. So for about four years the base and boxes of stuff have been sitting in the garage and loft.

From memory there's quite a lot of stuff, all Hornby, buildings, cars, rolling stock, trees, track even a couple having it off in a feild and a bloke throwing up behind the bins, loads of stuff.

I don't want get rid or sell it, but I'm not sure how or where to set it up.

So are there many folks here into model railways that can give me a few pointers?

Here are some pics, one of the original set, one of the track map layout (sorry about the quality, but its in the garage against the wall and difficult to get to ) and the controls, I think.

I have a huge loft, but I can't get the board as it is in the loft as the hatch is too small, I suppose I could re-build it but I'd rather not.

There's a load of stuff in boxes up in the loft too.

It’s nearly 10 years after my original post starting this thread.
I hadn’t done anything at all with the track and models since my post. Not had the time, space or inclination to do it.

The last six months we have had a lot of building work done at the house and a lot of stuff has been in storage.
Today I rediscovered some of my FIL train stuff, and the track and board is still in the garage covered up.

However, I do have the time, or will have in December, to get everything out and have a play.
The photos below show the models, trains and rolling stock etc. that I unearthed today. It’s not going back in the loft.

The new house will have a vast room for a model railway (unused attic space, but it's a kind of dormer bungalow, so no ladder to faff with and a normal doorway into the room). Just need to think about ventilation, as there are no windows and I don't really want any.

Real steam trains?

Re; the 'Stanley Ferry' diorama

No, it'll be following the St Johns Colliery line to the south-east, alongside the River Calder
The Basin to that side of the A&C N C is where the Tom Puddings went into the water

Reading just now that the Heljan catalogue for next year is free to download has reminded me of something.

Did anyone else used buy the Hornby catalogue in the late seventies/early eighties and spend hours looking at it, happy days?

I remember doing exactly that with old copies, mostly containing models no longer offered...

...and waiting for years for the class 142 Pacer model to finally be available...

I have some from the 80's. Won't be selling them though.

I read mine to destruction so they wouldn't be vary saleable...
